Am I a swan? Am I a goose? Am I a floating potato? Staring into the abyss until my reflection gives me some answers.

This awkward teenage cygnet is dealing with its ultimate "ugly duckling" phase, sporting a muddy-brown plumage that says I haven’t found my aesthetic yet. It glides across the water with its neck bent into a perfect question mark, staring intently at its reflection as if questioning all of its life choices up to this point. The golden hour sun highlights its frizzy feathers, while the calm waters of Joe Benesh Pond . Blurry yellow reeds in the background suggest that everyone else at the pond is minding their own business while this youth has a minor existential crisis.

A little throwback from early AQUA DOC days at a show!

Same mission. Bigger tomorrows.

I taught her everything she knows. (Including how to judge everyone at the pond). 🦢🌿🪶🍁

A close-up profile shot of two mute swans floating side by side on calm water. In the foreground, an adult swan with pristine white feathers, a bright orange bill, and a black knob looks forward with a regal, almost judgy expression. Just behind it, a fluffy gray juvenile swan mimics its mother’s exact pose and side-eye glance perfectly. It’s a hilarious case of "like mother, like daughter" synchronicity.

The morning parade is here and the pond water level dropped enough to reveal some hidden eggs. Chuck and the flock are looking great after their molt.

There is something in our pond.
The pond is tiny, little more than 1m across and ~0.5m deep. Occasionally, when I show myself, there is an audible "plop" and a sizeable disturbance in the water, as the "something" hides.
Will I ever discover what it is?
