1001 Nights

Tonight's pic is a friendly Kea sharing a sunset with me up on Key Summit. And trying to steal my walking poles!

“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.
Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.”
― John Muir

Flight of the photo geek.
High amongst the granite peaks of Fiordland, and far above the fog.

Doubtful

Late evening. The closest I ever got to a decent sunset here.
It came so close to lighting up, and then faded away.

A Sense of Porpoise

Curio Bay and Porpoise Bay in the Catlins are two absolutely gorgeous places, but they couldn't be more different - one is soft and sandy, the other is ancient fossilised forest. Well worth the visit.

A blustery sunset on Lake Ruataniwha, making for some nice wave reflections for me.

Lake Pukaki's Girdle

The Girdle of Venus rises over Lake Pukaki at the end of a long day.
It was nice to just sit for a while and watch the colours develop, and fade away.

Threads of mist warp and twist into a fabric of brightly coloured clouds.

Firebird

Through fire and flame and crucible,
From the ashes of her old life,
She rises aloft and soars anew.

Naked Flame

She burns and dances in the far, far distance,
A naked flame in the night.
And I am but a moth,
Powerless against her Light.

Last of the Sun

At certain times of the year, with the right conditions the setting sun sends brilliant shafts of light up the Fjord. It's gorgeous.

Bring me a wheel of oaken wood
A rein of polished leather
A Heavy Horse and a tumbling sky
Brewing heavy weather.
