If you want speed, check out Zombies mode. Stop the horde of Zombies from getting to the center. Sum to 20. Real-time play. The rainbow hexes are magical, activate them all! Fill up the heart meter for additional defense.
And if the Maze gives you trouble, Blocks mode is a different challenge. I haven't tried today's yet, but if you want a strategy, I scroll through all the cards and see if there is a single *type* of Block that is placeable.
Guess what? The new weekend modes are out! The Maze is now larger! Have fun with this, it's definitely a real challenge! The previous Maze mode was on a radius 2 board and players found it too easy.

I am definitely stuck!
Last of the tweaks was to the daily games display.
VS, Zombies, Blocks, and Maze mode now just have their icons.
Depending on where you live, for a little less than 2 gallons of gas, you could have a Pro account on hexsumgame.com and it'll last way longer 😉
This is me screwing up today's Daily-4 board. Fortunately, there's an undo! Either double-click the path you want to remove or click on undo path to sequentially reverse your moves.
Post your solve if you were able to figure out the Daily-4!
Also, if you are a teacher and want this as a regular activity with far more control, check out this thread on Design mode.
We were able to design boards that focused on the number bonds we were working on. Very fast, on-the-fly.
Try today's HexSum puzzle! [It's free! 😀]

For the classroom: don't worry about "solving" the board, just have your kiddos find any solution they can find. But if you want an individual challenge, try to solve the board!
This is going to be the new daily play set up for logged out play. Logged in players will have all modes unlocked as usual.
Still testing a bunch of flows, so it's not live yet. Hopefully in the next day or so.

HexSum players! I'm going to be replacing "Timed" mode with Zombies mode. Zombies mode is a way better timed mode. It'll be weekend only for logged out play.
Let me know if you really want the Timed Daily to stay. I don't keep track of logged out play.
If your school blocks websites or you don't want another computer activity, it's totally fine. You can download pdf files and project them or print them out for offline group work.
If you want to discuss more, reach out. I'm happy to help.
I've made this super friendly for the classroom. No ads!
The Pro plan is $7. Once. No monthly plans. No subscriptions. No upsells. No ads. Literally, just once $7.
Design your boards, have dedicated links, pdf downloads, other game modes.
What's also nice, is that if you have a Smart Board or a projector, it's a great collaborative classroom activity. Here's us doing this in Kindergarten. Wouldn't you know, HexSum became a regular request for practicing our tens facts.
You can use this as a pen and paper activity with a pdf download to print or email.
This is a calm activity and students can do this at their leisure. I'd think of this as another resource at your disposal. You can choose other target sums, too, not just 10.
One suggestion is to use it as a scavenger hunt. Can you find pairs of hexagons next to each other that add to ten? It doesn't matter if students "solve" the board. They are getting a taste of success by finding any solution.
Click Submit and get a dedicated URL.
Then when you click on "Assign Values" a board is automatically generated for you, as seen in this image preserving the paths you chose. All of these are random 10 pairs.
So what do you get out of this?
Let's say you are focusing on just pairs that add to 10. As a teacher you can just mark off paths that are two long, like this image [one image is partially complete, the other is an example of fully complete]
In this thread, I want to introduce "Design" mode. It's great for number fluency and teachers can create activities on the fly. Here's an empty board with a target of 10, in case you are focusing on number bonds / tens frames.

A bunch of new updates for hexsumgame.com
- point size much larger on all boards
- better animation for marked paths
- fixed some visual bugs that irritated probably only me :)
and not to make light of it, but ZOMBIES are here!! [Pro accounts]
Well this is a fun insane mode I've been putting together. Stop the zombies!
Hoping it'll be ready by this weekend.
In the meanwhile, Maze mode and Blocks are open to all this weekend!
