Continuing our #Sundayfishsketch and #sciartseptember collab with @lizlagomorph.bsky.social for this month’s #fishytheme, we are looking for “meandering” fishes for this Sunday!! Whether it be by a slow meander via frogfish or a glide by a ratfish, plenty of species to choose from! #sciart

I had a fantastic idea for today's #sciartseptember but I am not sure if I'll have time to sit and draw.

The #SciArtSeptember 🧪prompt is almond-shaped. Did you know that amygdala literally means almond-shaped? I didn’t, but now we both do. I used a (open source) brain MRI to make a cyanotype print and embellished it with metallic gold to show the almond-shaped feature, the paired nuclear complex

As described I used a (open source) brain MRI to make a cyanotype print and embellished it with metallic gold to show the almond-shaped amygdala, the paired nuclear complex present. It’s labelled “Amygdala” in gold and signed Ele Willoughby, 2026.

17. Almond. A Dog Cockle.
Glycymeris glycymeris. Its name in French (amande de mer) and Spanish (almendra de mar) means "sea almond", due to its apparently sweet and almond-like flavour.

I'm tired.

For Day 18 of #SciArtSeptember #Almond here is Terminalia mantaly which is NOT an almond but referred to as "Madagascar almond" because of their seeds which honestly look more like smushed deer or rabbit poop. Anyway urban arborists in Taipei are obsessed with this species and it is *everywhere* 🦑🐡🧪

#SciArtSeptember Day 17 Eyelet is the Blue-ringed octopus! Both cute and deadly 🐙

Colored pencil drawing of a blue ringed octopus. It’s a beige-white base with bright blue circles on brown spots.

Scalloped oak (Crocallis elinguaria; DE: Heller Schmuckspanner) in watercolor for #SciArtSeptember 16, “scallop.” Another widespread European moth species found in the late summer around broadleaf forests.

gonna be honest, #SciArtSeptember, I'm not feeling this anymore. hate the composition and i don't want to use colored pencils anymore right now.

oh well, on to the next!
#SciArt #WIP #CutMyLosses

photo of a sketchbook page half full with ink drawings of blushing rosette fungus, violet woodsorrel, coral fungus, a green caterpillar, and a spotted salamander. they range from almost fully colored to barely touched with committed pencils. the composition is horrid with the coneflower the caterpillar is on is right above the coral fungus and destroys the details, and the salamander has weird proportions.

For Day 17 of #SciArtSeptember #Eyelet here is The Eye of Horus—the logomark of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. BWF is a major US philanthropic supporting careers in biomedicine, infectious disease, maternal health, diversity in science, science education, and scicomm (of which I'm a fmr grantee!) 🐡🦑🧪

Today's #SciArtSeptember went in a weird direction for "eyelet." It started with scallop eyes then morphed into eyelet lace. 🤷‍♀️

Pen and colored pencil drawing of a closeup of the edges of an open scallop showing the little blue eyes near the rim of the shell. One edge of the scallop stretches into a piece of ribbon with an increasingly complex eyelet design.

For Day 16 of #SciArtSeptember #Scallop here's a story: For years in my apartment I decorated the bathroom toilet area with three beautiful oyster shells. Whenever I had new guests to the pad, I would know who was a major nerd by who laughed at this specific trio of trinkets...

Day 17 of #SciArtSeptember shape prompt is eyelet, so I thought of lace collars & chose to share astrophysicist Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin (1900-1979), who discovered that hydrogen and helium are the most common elements in the universe.🧪🐡👩🏼‍🔬🔭 #histsci

Born England, she won a scholarship

My linocut portrait of astronomer Cecelia Payne-Gaposchkin: At the bottom there’s a thin horizontal rectangle with a rainbow roll from left to right of indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red and black. The rectangle has a series of discrete thin vertical black stripes as this is a solar absorption spectrum. Above is Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin’s face and neck and a halo made by the shape of the sun in yellow and orange against a black background of outer space. She is serious young woman with a bob and a wide lace collar. Shading on her face is in the yellow of the sun.
