Lydd on Sea VC15 an increase in numbers and species from previous nights here by the sea, resulting in 135 of 26.

The highlight was this “Green Version” of a Barred Red, possibly a migrant.

The colder and quieter nights are drawing in as winter approaches. Only 38/14 in my latest trap but NFG Autumnal Rustic more than made up for the lack of numbers! Other good species were Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing and Acleris variegana

Merveille du Jour translates into "Wonder of the Day" and it certainly would be if it turns up in your moth trap this autumn. It feeds on ivy flowers and over ripe fruit, and is on the wing in September and October. #mothsmatter

Purple Toadflax has struggled a bit in this dry summer, but where it’s doing ok, Toadflax Brocade caterpillars are still doing well.
