Cadborosaurus is a sea serpent with a horse-like head reported around Vancouver Island, BC - most famously at Cadboro Bay, Victoria. Various people have claimed that various carcasses that have washed ashore are Cadborosaurus; they usually turn out to be whales or sharks.

Mòrag is the name given to a loch monster believed by some to live in Loch Morar, Scotland. A cousin of Nessie, and the last of these aquatic dinosaurs

The most common fortune-telling game on an Irish Hallow Eve used three saucers: clay, water and a ring. You were blindfolded, led to the table, and picked one. #WitchSky #WyrdWednesday #IrishFolklore

Mushrooms can appear almost overnight after autumn rain, forming rings that European folklore sometimes called fairy rings. Science explains the underground fungal growth beautifully. Folklore's explanation was riskier: something danced there while you slept. #WyrdWednesday

The name of the neopagan holiday Mabon comes from an epic hero of Welsh myth. Kidnapped as an infant, Mabon is tracked down by King Arthur and his men, who are guided by the oldest and wisest of animals: a blackbird, a stag, an owl, an eagle, and a salmon. #WyrdWednesday

Apples have often been used in Mabon rituals and ceremonies. Apple peels can be used for divination, while cutting an apple horizontally reveals seeds in a five-pointed star pattern, which resembles a sacred pentagram. Apples also symbolize harvest and abundance. #WyrdWednesday

Though rituals vary, sacred plants for Mabon often include sage, rosemary, yarrow, mugwort, hawthorn, elderberries, and calendula. These plants have been used for multiple purposes, such as cleansing, meditation, purification, divination, and medicine. #WyrdWednesday

The autumn equinox is often described as a day of perfectly equal light and darkness, but that's not quite true. Daylight generally lasts a little longer because of atmospheric refraction and how sunrise and sunset are measured. Even Mabon's "balance" has a wrinkle. #WyrdWednesday

The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox, so called because its light allowed farmers to work for longer. Before reliable street lighting, certain organisations - including Masonic societies - scheduled their meetings to coincide with the full moon. #wyrdwednesday #folklore

#WyrdWednesday The Old Man of Corn West Country Rhyme
'He stands in the mist of the Devon rain
A ghost made of straw & a rusted chain
He watches the seasons turn & go
With a coat of rags & a crown of crow
No boots on his feet
No pipe to smoke
Just an old grey coat & a 🖤 of oak'
