ah damn, RIP Margaret Hamilton.

she took safety-critical software engineering seriously, and got people to the moon and back.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In panel one, we see a crow’s face. It says, “I AM DEATH’S MESSENGER”.
In panel two, we see the same crow’s face. It continues, “YOUR TIME IS NEAR”.
In panel four, we see the crow awkwardly hopping away from a stick figure.
In panel five, we see the grim reaper with the crow perched on his hand. The grim reaper says, “So you should probably fly away dramatically instead.”

A man observes a black cat by candle. The candle illuminates the cat in such way that its shadow is fooking mahoosive on the wall behind it.

The Searching Dead (2016) by Ramsey Campbell. Three young people in post-WW2 England discover a plot to materialize ghosts and awaken a great evil. A blend of weird fiction, supernatural detective tale, and coming-of-age story.

Art credit in alt text.

“Sometimes they come back”
The Monkey's Paw" by W. W. Jacobs (1902)
An elderly couple possess a talisman that will grant three wishes. They are warned there will be dire consequences if they use it. Foolishly they wish for money & receive it as compensation for the death of their son.

Illustration for "The Monkey's Paw" by Maurice Greiffenhagen. A elderly couple are in great distress. The father holds up the monkey’s paw to wish their son back in the grave.

Wyrdlings!

"The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague”, Poe famously wrote and for the anniversary of his own death, we give you:

“Sometimes they come back – Return from the Great Beyond”

as this week’s #WyrdWednesday topic.

Come, tell tales of the living dead! 💀

These two 1st-2nd c. CE Roman marble theatrical masks represent comedy and Melpomene, muse of tragic theater. They were discovered in the peristyle of a ruined Roman villa of La Estación in Antequera, Spain. Note the little face of the actor behind the large open mouth of the comedy mask! 😆 🏺 📸 me

Marble mask of the personification of comedic theater. It’s somewhat grotesque, the mouth opening in a large open and wide grin, with bugged-out eyes and deep laugh lines around the eyes and forehead. He has a pompadour hairstyle, taller than the face itself, and it falls to the level of the mask’s chin, with incised wavy lines. A small frowning face of an actor with a snub nose can be seen inside the large mouth.

It’s the face of a woman, specifically Melpomene, muse of tragic theater, her eyes open wide and her mouth opening in a horrified scream. She has a two-tiered wig of wavy or ringleted hair with a center part.
