Norfolk moths report Heath Rustic is normally reported around 6 times a year in the county. A real surprise to see it in my North Norfolk garden this morning with no heathland in the immediate vicinity. #mothsmatter

Wed was a nightmare, 110°F high / 84 low. think I had a touch of heat exhaustion, but put up the lights anyway.

Furcula cineroides, only 2nd showing this year, first time I’ve seen the underwing

A dozen species in the trap in Mid Cheshire this evening. It will be interesting to see what else turns up over night. This Yellow Shell was one of the first to arrive. #teammoth #mothsmatter

It's that time again! Time to play "Moth, Or Sheepdog?"

(Or Yeti, or Random Cuddly Toy ... needs more thought before I trademark this one 🤣)

Close-up of very fuzzy Grey-and-white moth on the back of a faded green-stained chair. The moth has fur-like material popping out in a number of unlikely places.

Close-up of the face of a dull-coloured moth on the photographer's fingertip. He has dark beady eyes and his antennae emerge from his head in white clusters that look like greying eyebrows.

Red-green Carpet moth in the trap last night in Cheshire. A definite sign of autumn. A cool night, but still quite a few moths around. #teammoth #mothsmatter

One of the drawbacks of being so woolly on a wet winter morning 🐛💧

A caterpillar we spotted recently on a cool winter’s morning in an area north of Perth. No idea what this guy is destined to metamorphose into 🦋🔎

The mystery of the missing Bogong moths as backyard moth traps fail (so far) to record any of the 14,000 moths tagged at the end of last summer 🔎🦋

A Golden Twin-spot. A first for our garden. Soon after the pic was taken, it took off and headed straight the ‘Mönch’ to get a good fill of nectar. This takes our species count of visitors to this plant to 31.

So, this Golden Twin-spot ab. was my 40th NFG and 400th NFY of 2026 and was a county first and my first county first, I'm chuffed with that. Totally irrelevant to anyone else, but...

Brick exterior wall that has seen some patch attempts and other incidents over the years. There may or may not be one or two moths on the wall, one of which may be a Stalk Borer and another of which may be a Water Hemlock Borer.

The Red Underwing (Catocala nupta) knows how to make a statement 🤩

Keep an eye out for this flashy moth in woodland, parkland, scrub, riverbanks and gardens.
