🪶 Good Morning, Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is:

#Silhoutte; any bird in silhouette

Alt. is #Finches; any bird from the finch family

- A Tufted Duck heads home across the lake at sunset
- A Linnet in song in the sunshine

#birds #ECK #birdphotography #naturephotography

A Tufted duck in silhouette, paddling away from the shore at sunset. The bird is in the centre of the shot, paddling away from camera with its head turned back to the camera over its left shoulder. Its reflection can be seen in the water behind it.
The setting sunlight on the water gives off a metallic gold/bronze effect. In the foreground are vertical reed stems, also in silhouette, coming up a quarter of the frame on the right and about halfway on the left. A Linnet perched on the top of a bramble bush in the sunshine. The bird is left of centre of frame, its right side is visible and its beak is open in song.
The bramble takes up the bottom third of the shot, mostly fresh green leaves and shoots with the occasional old white branch or fresh flower buds throughout.
The bird has a grey head and red forehead with a bright red chest. It has a brown back and wings, which turn to black with a white stripe at the end. Its underbelly is pale with brown streaks.
The bright morning sunshine is shining from the right and casting a warm light on the bird and the brambles.
The background is of an out of focus field of grass and is a uniform green throughout.

"In the captivating image you’ve shared, a house finch (Haemorhous mexicanus) takes center stage. This delightful bird is perched on a metal pole or bar, its wings outstretched as if it’s either taking off or gracefully landing. Let’s dive into the details:

The house finch boasts a mix of gray and brown feathers, creating a subtle yet elegant appearance. But what steals the show are the vibrant red accents! These crimson highlights adorn its head, throat, and chest, adding a pop of color against the neutral background.

The finch’s wings are beautifully spread, showcasing their intricate structure. The tail feathers fan out gracefully, emphasizing the bird’s agility and grace. It’s a moment frozen in time, capturing the essence of avian movement.

The soft gradient of green hues serves as the backdrop. Likely foliage blurred by the camera’s shallow depth of field, it creates a pleasing contrast with the finch. The bird stands out vividly against this natural canvas." - Copilot with edits by the photographer

The Vulnerable Large Tree-Finch was, at least in my experience, one of the more difficult species to see and is considered Vulnerable to extinction. I only saw this species at elevation in the moist tropical forest of Santa Cruz & Isabela, though they occur on other large islands too.

"The photograph captures a group of five house finches perched on branches. At the center of the composition stands a male house finch, resplendent in vibrant red plumage on its head, throat, and breast. His striking coloration distinguishes him from the four surrounding female house finches. These females exhibit more subdued tones, with brown streaked feathers. The contrast between the male’s vivid red and the females’ earthy hues creates an eye-catching arrangement.

The birds are set against a blurred green background, emphasizing their presence as the focal point. Their delicate postures and feather patterns add to the overall charm of the scene. Overall, it’s a delightful glimpse into the world of these charming finches." - Microsoft Copilot
