Good morning All. I thought that as today is my first day, the #BirdOfTheDay theme should be: #Firsts some of your earliest bird captures. Alt. is my most captured; #Robins - Male Reed Bunting, shot in my 1st fortnight of having a camera - The ubiquitous European Robin #birds #photography #ECK

A Male Reed Warbler on a thin plant stalk. The bird is left of centre of the shot perched near the top of tall, dried out plant stalk that is bent over at a 45 degree angle with the weight of the bird. It is turned slightly to look right so that its front, belly and right side can be seen.
Another plant stalk is vertical beside the bird.
The background is an out focus blue sky with two thin, vertical tree branches sparsely covered in green leaves. A European Robin perched on a thin Sycamore branch. The bird is right of frame, the underside of its tail and body are fully visible, as is its chest. Its head is turned to the left so that the left side of its head can be seen.
It is perched on a small sycamore branch which runs vertically along the right of the picture. A second, larger branch runs from the bottom, slightly left of the centre, to the top right hand corner.
The background is out of focus branches lit brightly by sunlight

The - in my very subjective eyes - most stunning photos of the week 4/9 - 10/10 among the photos published by the photography accounts who I follow and who follow me. A maximum of one photo per account.

Prepare to be amazed.

🪶 Rob has chosen #Ducks&GeeseInFlight as today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme; any ducks or geese in flight

Alternative is #Pigeons&Doves, any Pigeon or Dove species

- Three Mallard taking off
- Brent Geese (B&W) landing at the coast

#birdphotography
#ECK #birds #birdsofbluesky #naturephotography #Stunday

Three male Mallard ducks taking off from the reeds at the side of a lake. All three birds are more or less centre of the shot and all are facing left so that’s their left sides are visible. The nearest (on the right) is about a foot off the water surface with its wings in front of it in a downward beat, its head is level with the ground. The second is a little lower and has its wings back behind it in an upward beat. The third still has its feet touching the water and its body elongated upward, its wings are behind it and high.
They have a yellow bill and a glossy, iridescent green head with a narrow white ring on the neck. The breast is chestnut brown, the body is grey; turning to white in the underbody. They have a distinctive purple-blue speculum on their wings, which is bordered by white. The feet are orange.
The foreground is short reeds with water visible in between and the droplets and splashes from the birds can be seen throughout the foreground, particularly under the birds and to the right.
The background is a mass of straw yellow grasses and reeds Seven Brent geese coming in to land at the coast. The image is in black and white and six of the geese are centre of the shot with the seventh towards the top right.
They are a small sea goose, about mallard sized with a completely black head, neck and breast. They have a distinctive white neck patch. The body is grey-brown with pale flanks and belly.
The foreground is the shallow water of the bay with a straight line of rocks covered in seaweed running from left to right just below the centre of the shot. Behind that is more water with the shore, covered in seaweed, in the background. This turns more rocky as you reach the top of the shot.
