The homa was not always nice fire. At some point, we added ~36 bowls of "pancha kajjaya" [Kannada] which caused much smoke. Teary eyes and coughs ensued, but everything smelled good.

After homa, we offered "puje" (service) to a clay idol of Ganesha.

An expert in gana homa was the main priest. First, he "swore" us in to be the main performers of the homa.

The proportion of fire & smoke changes through the ritual depending on what's being added to the pit. In these pics it's mostly fire, thanks to ghee.

Monkey mask with a radiant presence. Wood, old brown and black patina, green polychromy, white highlights and signs of use. Dhimal, Terai region, Southeastern Nepal. H. 22 × W. 16 cm. Representing Hanuman, this mask is distinguished by an exceptionally pure graphic construction. The face, divided into two oblique planes, organizes the composition around a long, projecting nose that structures the entire form. The elongated eyes, the mouth set within the lower oval of the face and the green polychromy give the figure the bearing of an attentive guardian, at once calm and intensely present. Through the economy of its forms, this simian figure radiates a quiet authority.
