Morgan Winery Double L Vineyard Pommard 4 Pinot Noir 2024, Santa Lucia Highlands, California Purple/ reddish in color with light intensity. Fresh red berries on the nose, and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Showing fresh cherries, raspberries, light oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco and herbs. Medium length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a tasty and easy drinking Pinot Noir from Santa Lucia Highlands in California. Showing nice complexity with good balance. Tangy and engaging. Elegant and fruit forward. This Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is still young, but already enjoyable even by itself, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 to 10 years. Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. 100% Pinot Noir grapes were aged in (66% new) French oak barrels for 10 months. A tiny production of less than 1,800 bottles. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $75.

Chateau Les Graves de Lavaud Lalande de Pomerol 2020, Bordeaux, France Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim. Strong nose of red and black fruits with light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, peppercorn, dried meats, tobacco leaf, light rhubarb and mediterranean spices. Full bodied and soft, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, light cedar, tobacco leaf, dark chocolates, earth, herbs, spices, light vegetables and black pepper. Tangy finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a delicious Merlot based blend from Bordeaux. Nicely balanced and good right out of the bottle. Fruit forward and complex, with a nice mouthfeel. I really enjoyed the nose here. This 6 year old Merlot will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. Paired very nicely with dried meats and crackers. Kosher and not Mevushal. 14% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $50.

Frias Family Vineyard Vangone Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, Napa Valley, California Inky in color with a short reddish rim. Strong nose of black currants, wild flowers, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, earth, toast, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, herbs and black pepper. Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with plums, currants, sweet cherries, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, black tea and peppercorn. Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very young Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Needs more bottle time to mature properly, but already enjoyable, even by itself. Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 to 20 years. Rich and fruit forward, elegant and smooth. Complex and interesting, spicy and entertaining. A great sipping wine that also paired nicely with my steak. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (60% new) French oak barrels for 23 months. A tiny production of only 1,500 bottles. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $250.

I did the @nigella.bsky.social raw beet, dill and mustard seed salad. Not wanting to have Lady MacBeth-like hands, as Nigella references in the recipe, I used golden beets. Being American, I wasnt sure what a wodge of dill was exactly. Served w king salmon and maitake mushrooms. #Cookingsky #Winesky

Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Guado al Tasso Cont'Ugo Bolgheri Rosso 2022, Tuscany, Italy It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Red and black fruits on the nose with tobacco, light wood, licorice, chocolates, black pepper, herbs and spices. Full bodied and soft with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with cherries, red currants, sweet raspberries, coffee, sweet oak, chocolates, licorice, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth and mediterranean spices. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This 4 year old Super Tuscan Merlot is drinking very nicely now. Nicely balanced and elegant. Complex and entertaining. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, and balance itself out. Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. Wine Spectator 94 points. I had the 2021 vintage a couple of years ago at the winery, and it was much better. The 2022 vintage was not as good as the 2021, so there's that. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. 100% Merlot grapes were aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $65.
