I love how T. Kingfisher weaves humor into her horror, and sometimes leans into the absurd for her monsters/villains. It's a good reminder that your work will be better if you don't take yourself too seriously.

There is an accidental reference to The Room in Little Bird that I left in because it makes me snort every time I read it.

When I was little, I read Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. It's written as mail between the characters, but over the course of the plot, letters are banned from the alphabet. 🧵
The characters end up in the Prismatic Forest, in the Queendom of Glass, while on the run. It is a beautiful but dangerous shallowing between worlds, and all the plants are made of colored glass.

I have to go with fellow #audiostory creator @solarisstory.bsky.social for this one. The music for their story, specifically the end of the volume 1 finale, really added a level of depth to the story that I had never considered and directly inspired my own attempt.
Whimsical Writers (Sept. 11th)!
Bonus Task: Find a person's post and ask them a question about their answer to the prompt. The person who gets asked then has to go leave a question in return. Please do this for each other, I'm too sick.

18. It's okay. Not my favorite. I just remember thinking it fit.
From The Vicious Militance:
I love foreshadowing.
My world, Monster Realm.
A particularly whimsical room in an antique space station that was modeled after a grand manor-house.
Once the “Carriage House.” Now the foyer off the old dock.
While most of my stories are real-world, that doesn't mean there isn't whimsy. I love using contrast.
I have once scene where the characters make several folklore jokes because the house they come upon looks to be from 1300s on the outside and they just came from a huge city.
This may be my smallest Odle so far! But that's appropriate since it's an Ode to STRUMMING UKULELE. www.odle.app (The daily Odle game only lets you use the letters that are in the title topic! It's such a fun challenge.) #writingcommunity #wordgames #blueskypoetry #micropoetry #WhimsicalWriters
Love this #WhimsicalWriters prompt. I'd say the least listened to song on the playlist for Canary is Sleepless by Flume ft. Jezzabell Doran. It's a mostly instrumental song that sets the tone for the earlier part of the story, and I'm deep in developing the end so I need music with a darker tone.
My settings for the 1st 2 books have all been real-world, so I'm looking forward to the next book, which will introduce the Council Cores! They're immense magical underground complexes that support everything post-mortals can be. (Which is a LOT.)

Ironically, I think the rundown building Aroi House uses for NICEF is probably the best fit. Diela's first time inside it offers a good concept of why:

#WhimsicalWriters I don't think I have too many settings that can be considered whimsical. In The Night Garden, it tends to be within the forests that exist on every property, cobblestone paths with motifs of bats and moons leading to the destination.
With Such Sweet Sorrow, probably the spire.
I've been wanting to add more whimsy to my setting, but so far I just got Spooky Woods 🌳🍃
Raven & Bear has a lot of whimsical settings, which mostly come from suggestions made by other people. For instance, the prompt I got for The Lake Hopper was "mushroom town faces anti-fungal problems".
Thread.
