It does mean you sometimes have to go back to your Bitch Buddy and say "actually I was wrong!"
in bad faith. Because sometimes once you've had a rant and sat with it for some time, you can see a little clearer as to whether it was valid critique but maybe worded horrendously, or whether it was someone just being a dick.
You don't have to take or agree with all criticism and I think if you get two opposing critiques- YOU are the expert of your work, so only you will know which one to implement. I would also recommend having even just one person you can have a gigantic bitch to about critique that you think is
Aw fuck!!!!!
I regularly forget its not a word elsewhere. What are they all playing at?
and as I said to someone else earlier, be kind to yourself! Be your biggest fan! Tell yourself (and us!) what you love about your writing and if someone else has said something nice, keep that somewhere, even as a screenshot for you to remind yourself on the days where its particularly hard.
It sounds like you're juggling a lot alongside writing, so please don't ever feel like a failure! It sometimes feels like the world is a really horrible place lately and especially so if you're unwell or disabled. I think just taking some time for yourself, especially if you're feeling burnt out
Ohhh that's cool, I'm always looking for other Scots on this site! I'm in Glasgow these days, originally from Stirling and have lived up and down the whole place in between.
Looking for another audio-based story to enjoy? Fancy some folklore & legend from the beautiful country of Wales? There's plenty of time to catch up before Bramble's next episode is out!
Exactly! Just out of nosiness, whereabouts in Scotland were you?
phonetically write something if I'm trying to make a point ex. A character 'switching' the way they speak for a different audience.
I've seen it done well and I've seen it done terribly- I think for me I can generally tell if the person writing the accent doesn't actually have real life experience of that accent outwith like TV. I typically use Scots words & sentence structure in English sentences, but every now and then I'll
Godspeed.
celebrate everything you do. Maybe this year you'll have two of those (Me & Jin) and next year it might go up to four. That said if at any point making your videos isn't fun for you (or you even want a break) take a break, be kind to yourself and do something fun and that might help get 2nd wind.
I love your stories & your videos! But unfortunately we live in a world where everyone is busy, jaded, exhausted & also have their own stories that they desperately want others to read. There was a post on here at some point about finding your load-bearing followers, that's your ride-or-die's that
Scottish folklore is typically told through word of mouth and there's often tiny regional variations. So even if you know the main story like the back of your hand, there's always something new depending on who's telling it or where its told. For me, its the exact same with other stories!
Next up at #fantasycon was a panel about realistic injury in SFFH.
And finally, we closed out #fantasycon with a panel about food. (Hi @idakeogh.bsky.social !)
For me what makes SaY different is that the love triangle is not the plot (its a little side salad.) Whereas for me at least, if something is marketed as the 'love triangle' as the main meal, I know its probably not my cuppa tea.
It's when you have to bend the cable a specific way for it to work that finally makes me get a new one.
