Friends watch each others' back, right? Or at least, that's what I like to imagine these two are doing. #BirdBuddies
#BirdoftheDay
(Alt theme today is #BirdsinGreen.)
#Birds 🪶

On a muddy algae-covered bank with shallow puddles of water, a Herring Gull and a female Mallard Duck forage for food.
The Herring Gull is on the right, displaying his typical yellow beak with a red spot towards the end of the beak, pink legs, pale grey wings, and white plumage on the head, breast and back. He is facing toward the camera and walking with his body slightly turned to the right, so that he appears neither in profile nor fully facing the photographer.
The female Mallard Duck is on the left, displaying her typical yellow beak, orange legs, blue-and-white stripe on the wing, and speckled brown plumage in various shades ranging from buff/tan to chocolate brown. She is facing toward the left and is almost in profile, and she is is the middle of lifting her weight off the ground, so her breast is closer to the ground than her tail.

Have a nice Tuesday, bird buddies!🪶
Today's alt theme green: European #GreenWoodpecker caught flying yesterday. If you look closely, you will see a single feather falling just below it.
#MyClick #BirdOfTheDay #BirdsInGreen #WildlifePhotography #BirdWatching
#Poland Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis)

A sharp, dynamic close-up of a European Green Woodpecker captured mid-flight as it dives away from a thick, textured tree trunk on the right. The bird is facing the camera with wings fully spread, showing bright olive-green plumage, a white and black face pattern, and a vibrant red crown on its head. A single, distinct gray wing feather is frozen in mid-air, falling directly beneath the bird's tail. The background features a beautiful, soft bokeh of lush green leaves and bright blue sunlit spots.

🪶 Helen has chosen #BirdBuddies as today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme; 2 different species sharing the same space.
Alt. is #BirdsInGreen; any bird with green plumage.

I’m going with the alt. With this Goldcrest in the winter sunshine.

#birdphotography
#ECK #birds #photography #birdsofbluesky #nature

A Goldcrest perched on a small branch of a hawthorn tree in the bright sunshine. The bird is right of centre of the shot, facing the camera and turned to the left slightly so that its front and part of the left side are visible.
The bird is tiny and round with a fine, needle like bill. It has an olive-green back and grey-green to buff white underparts. It has a vibrant yellow crown stripe with a thick black border
The bird is on a branched stemming from a larger limb, which travels behind the bird in the shot. A vertical branch travels up the left have side int he shot and the background is out of focus vegetation with small dapples of light.
The sunshine is shining in from the left and highlighting the bird and the prominent branches.

Can you find two 'different' bird species sharing the same space!? Here's a lovely Dunnock and Wren perched together on a bramble stem 📷 🪶 🤎

Alt. #BirdsInGreen Any shade of green on a birds plumage 😊

Happy Tuesday everyone 🕊️👋

#Birds #ECK

A vertical photograph of two small, brown birds perched along the same horizontal thorny stem of a bramble on the edge of a rural field. The background is softly blurred, transitioning from a warm, golden-brown field in the middle ground to a deep green foliage layer at the very top from distant woodland. The bird on the left is a tiny, compact Eurasian wren in slight side profile facing left. It features mottled brown plumage with subtle dark barring across its back and wings. Its short, pointed tail is slightly upturned, and a prominent pale stripe runs just above its dark eye. To the right, a slightly larger Dunnock perches higher on the same stem also facing toward the left but more with its back towards the camera. It has a more elongated body with heavily streaked dark brown and tan feathers across its back and wings. The bramble stem cuts horizontally across the lower third of the frame, lined with sharp, reddish thorns and clusters of green, serrated leaves. In the immediate foreground, and just in front of the birds are out-of-focus stalks of wild grasses creating a natural frame.
