#TimeTravelAuthors 3 October ghost/spirit
Came across this editing today. Ash speaking.
#TimeShift #specfic #WIPSnips

Photo, no descriptionI wonder who she is. I turn it over in case there is a date or other clues on the back, but all it says is Essie, written in pencil. Is that short for Esther? Estelle?
Studying the woman in the photograph again, I am bedazzled by her eyes, and feel myself falling through time...

The black-and-white photo turns sepia, then a garish 70s Instamatic colour photo. Her playful smile widens to a grin, her hand reaching forward and pulling me – the viewer, over half a century later – into the picture. In an instant I am enveloped by a hubbub of noise and voices, but when I turn my head to look around, it's like moving in jelly, and what I see leaves traces of movement, wavy stripes that give me vertigo. I'm in-between worlds or dimensions where no one can see me. Our hands – mine and this Essie – represent the boundary of a bubble.
Hers is a vibrant technicolour world; I’m in a monochrome jellylike bubble outside of time.

D3- Prompt word ghost or spirit
Technically Milady has been dead for thousands of years, so she's a spirit now, while Davin just got shot at close enough range that the impact on his vest stopped his heart and he is 'visiting' the afterlife.

Even days are for posting whatever!I suddenly pick out a magical resonance in the distance. I look in that direction but see nothing. It sounds sort of like a soul, but… off, somehow. Not a pleasing sound.
“What’s that magic coming from over there?” I ask.
Aimetor frowns. “Ghost, maybe? Hopefully not a…”
Aimetor curses in Nemorian, and I can hear the terror in their aura.
“Essōr anămōm!” Aimetor shouts.
The mage starts to respond, then stops and turns to the invisible source of magic in alarm. The two non-mages turn around as well, looking around in confusion. Kalai looks to be freaking out.
“Er, Alios?” I whisper.
“Right,” Alios’ voice says after a second. “Brr. Soul Devourer.”
‘We did not bring it here!’ Kalai shouts, regaining composure.
‘Nor us,’ the mage replies. ‘Foroug’s sword can destroy Soul Devourers. I did not know that particular enchantment would come in handy.’
‘Strike true, or it will drain the sword’s magic and likely break the enchantment,’ Kalai warns. ‘I can control it from a distance; Iubiugra will guide our strike.’
‘We are not giving the sword to a stranger!’ the mage says. ‘I have this.’
They ask their companion for the sword, most likely in Akewan, because Alios doesn’t translate. They then start levitating the sword and send it in the direction of the Soul Devourer.
‘A little farther!’ Kalai calls. ‘No, too much!’
The sword suddenly drops to the ground.
“What just happened?” I whisper.
“It cut the thread,” Alios responds. I make a questioning sound, confused, and Alios continues. “The magical thread connecting the sword to… No time. Ask me later.”
The mage talks to the little one in camo, who takes off the belt of magical supplies and runs off after the sword.
‘You need someone who can sense the spirit. Someone without a soul to risk.’ Aimetor gestures at me. ‘It has to be this one.’
Aimetor turns to me. “Felix, you must be the one to deal with it. It will sap your magic if it touches you, but it cannot eat your soul because you have none.”With a pained expression in his eyes, the doctor picks up the gun from the table.
I hear the muffled pow of a gunshot as he turns around and shoots Gem in the chest. She sits there in confusion for a moment or two, unmoving and bleeding out.
My vision is very blurry now, and I feel on the brink of death. I try to think through the brain fog.
If I’m going to die, then so be it, but I won’t just lie here while this psycho doctor shoots people. Adrenaline now coursing through my body, I rip out the tube attached to my arm. Gem slowly turns to lie face down on the bed right beside me. I reach for her, but my arm seems to pass right through her and I roll over onto my stomach.
For a moment I wonder if she vanished, but no, she’s just on the other side of me. I painfully push myself up and reposition myself to be sitting on the side of the bed. I stare as the pool of blood from where she was shot trickles upward towards me, towards the wound in my chest. What is going on?
The doctor sets something down that emits a dim glow, and points the gun at me. I hear a whap as something tugs me forward. I feel searing pain for a moment, and then nothing. The blood on my chest is gone and even my dress looks intact. How – ?
The doctor places the gun on the table once more. Once I get over the shock of what just happened, I get up and hobble over to the table. I pick up the gun and inspect it closely. It just looks like a regular gun. But somehow… it healed me? He sacrificed my sister to save me? However he did it, that’s awful!

NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL SPOILERS styled like the "NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC" CDs. I may be old. Generated at https://pixelframe.design/now-thats-what-i-call-music-logo-font-cover-generator/ I was a ghost, trapped inside Liam's yard.

A ghost who might die of thirst or hunger.

At least I could sit on the stoop; it existed in the present and in 2013 both. So I curled up at its edge and wept. My ghostly tears vanished as they struck the ground.

I want so much to go home.

D3. Dent imagined ethereal voices in the fog as he slogged up the hill, only getting the fear under control when they reached level ground. I’m a scientist, he thought impatiently, ghosts don’t exist and even if they do, they can’t harm me. Those trackers on the other hand…

Happy Saturday, #TimeTravelAuthors!

In this spooky (not really) snip, Therese catches Marcus having an important conversation with the personality living in the ship, who only he can see. More than a little like a #ghost!

#writingcommunity #writingprompts

Marcus was alone, and like her was dressed for the cold outside. But he was talking to someone. Not unusual, as he’d often spoken to Rune like she was in the room with them at the onset of their mission. But this was different. Marcus’ eyes with their mechanical irises were aimed across and down, very definitely locked on a specific place on the corridor wall. He was speaking softly, as if to someone standing close. And as they watched, he lifted one hand and placed it against something that they could not see.“It won’t be the same out there,” he said. “I need it to be like this. It’s… That’s kind of the whole point, Rune.”It felt like eavesdropping, but she knew they’d not get away and grant him privacy without the rustle of her clothing being heard. Still, as they watched, Marcus cast them an unsurprised glance over his shoulder. He acknowledged them with a smile.“I don’t mind that they can hear,” he said, evidently not to her or Hal. “I’m not embarrassed. What I want is…”He shook his head, returning his face to the invisible Rune. “Never mind. Like I said, I’d like to talk properly when I get back. Is that alright?”Silence. Marcus reached out. Therese thought she could sense the ghosts of strands of hair running through his fingers.“Thank you, Rune,” he said.

being the end, it became simply one more advantage to exploit. Who knew—maybe that was exactly the
kind of thing that'd get them to the Tower."

My WIP is a Middle Grande #TimeTravel novel. The MC is 12, but the real-life children of King Francis are younger (5, 6, and going on 8). My own kid is 16.
I had doubts if my written talking was realistic.⬇️
