I am so proud of this achievement for Sascha. If you want to know about his amazing work that led to this award check out his two preprints: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Claudio Alfieri

After excising an intron, the spliceosome gets trapped on the branched intron-lariat RNA. How are such dead-end spliceosomes terminated? Our latest paper led by @vytaute.bsky.social investigates the mechanism of spliceosome termination www.nature.com/articles/s41... (1/6)
Many congrats Clemens and Team!
a fantastic new paper by lab alumni @codyz.bsky.social and yangliu9.bsky.social. Congratulations - such a cool mechanism! check it out ๐๐๐๐๐๐

Researchers from our Plaschka lab expected one molecular motor to dismantle the cellโs RNA-editing machine. Instead, they found three. Like three hands untying a knot, the motors act in sequence to take the spliceosome apart: https://bit.ly/4AQnqNQ
Strikingly, @claudioalfieri.bsky.social and his team demonstrate that using cryo-tides, they can obtain high-resolution structures of APC/C, which otherwise requires carbon support.
During this time, @amymcgeoch.bsky.social in my lab started working with the CDK11 complex, which showed strong preferred orientation. Addition of the original (BH) cryo-tide induced additional particle views, which eventually helped us determine the 2.3 ร -resolution structure of the complex.
New preprint from Dodonova lab ๐! Capturing multiple states by cryo-EMโ๏ธ, we show for the first time how archaeal RNA Polymerase engages a nucleosome and forms direct contacts with histones! ๐งฌ
Great work by Gabriele & a fantastic collaboration with Dina Grohmann! ๐งต

...a lot of people have asked me about our cryo-tides and how they help with preserving particles during cryo-EM grid preparation...and here we go #cryoem: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
First PhD of the Zhang Lab @mrclmb.ac.uk! ๐โจ Helen successfully defended her PhD thesis last week. So proud to have watched her grow as a researcher and of all she has achieved in her work on the coupling of transcription and splicing! Congratulations, Helen! ๐
