A modest poetics
The necessary claims you as conduit.
Your verbs (their fears and shaky dreams)
Hallucinate other plausible worlds,
Whose idioms echo from a well in
Awkward (to us) etymologies.
Encoding (our) memories of bad times.
Trajectories travel, but first you think it's
Only our convictions produce measure, mix yes and no, multiply, and link
the proto-mercurial nouns of poetry.
But it's not. There's more. Other understandings.
The inner ear inside you listens
To otherness articulating inside your ear.
Simply, you must live as if
You are made by the work
You make. Made in this mix
Of other findings lodged with yours.
The work of a work is a difficult bliss;
Live in it, its somber and ecstatic
Honesties. Live its years and saturations.
Live in time, ours, and in its threatening times.
