Critic @davidcollard.bsky.social kicks off a series of conversations with authors and publishers on the state of criticism, small presses and the reception of a certain novel. First up is @cdrose.bsky.social, author of We Live Here Now, winner of the Goldsmiths Prize.
Sorry, Owen.
(Rare) public appearance from me, and (quite frequent) one from @lukekennard.bsky.social talking about black bags, poems, novels, and maybe Strindberg and Slint. @blackwellsmcr.bsky.social - a week on Thursday. Come along!
I love that record.
I've been told they used to use 'trespassers on the line' as a euphemism, but have now dropped this.
It's National Poetry Day and yes, it should run for a week, or a month, or even longer. Here's my book about reading one short poem very closely for a year - and what a poem! www.saggingmeniscus.com/catalog/a_cr...
We are delighted to announce the #GoldsmithsPrize2026 shortlist! 🎉🎉

All the best novels have this rare quality.
Love that book.
As always, I'm keen to hear from potential contributors. You just need i) to love short stories ii) to be able to narrow that love down to 12 (TWELVE!) stories and iii) be able to write about what they mean to you. DMs open. Don't be shy!
Jongens, gadver, I have written about the new Joy Division box set and the band in NL in 1980.

@jonathangibbs.bsky.social Set up in the early 50s, Transacord were the Motown of rail recordings. Many many discs (some sold up to 30 000 copies), this one is a favourite, mostly because of its inclusion of platform passenger announcements and excellent sleevenotes.
I know the new China Miéville is a big one, but *35 quid*?
Noticing a few "publications" lifting a lot of my recent Soft Cell feature wholesale, so re-upping it in case there's anyone who still wants to read it from the source!

It appears in 2026 we're back again with some insisting the novel must end at Middlemarch. Some days it's as though modernism never happened. This is the only work where you're requested to do it poorly to satisfy people's tame and dull appetites. We would never been this unambitious for visual art
3 September 1832 Enraged that the head of a 3-year-old cholera victim had been severed from his body, a mob attacked the cholera hospital, Swan St Manchester. The head was retrieved from the home of a medical student who fled the town.
A great piece here from Sofia Hallström, regarding a (possibly) non-existent show at a (possibly) non-existent gallery, which would have been even too much for my 'We Live Here Now.'
