That’s a very good question, but when @hinabokharild.bsky.social suggests that maybe when diesel is over £2/litre, people might consider using a #CargoBike instead of a van for some jobs, social media outrage followed with the usual arguments about fridges.

Good response from @hinabokharild.bsky.social here - no-one is saying a #CargoBike can do every job a van can do, but they can do a lot, and with diesel over £2/litre they can do it a lot more cheaply as well as being cleaner

The @libdems.org.uk have adopted a policy calling for a ban on non-compliant conversion kits, which as identified by @appgcw.bsky.social pose a serious risk to the benefits of compliant electric assist pedal cycles for traffic reduction, health and decarbonisation.

It’s really good to see a delivery platform calling for better regulation of #eBike conversion kits but this doesn’t address a business model that encourages use of such illegal conversion kits and should not prevent increased regulation of these platforms.

Today at #LibDemConference, we have motion F38 about tackling dangerous and illegal e-bikes.

Legal e-bikes (sometimes referred to as Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles) have huge potential for #TransportDecarbonisation so it’s vital that the rules are enforced and where necessary tightened.

Unfortunately this motion applies only to England as the @scotlibdems.org.uk is a separate entity. We hope they’ll consider a similar policy, however.

We are delighted that motion F16 at #LibDemConference passed.

This policy recognises that promoting walking, wheeling and cycling is not just transport policy - it's also preventive healthcare, environmental action, and economic common sense.
