"Translating poetry and other writing from Ukraine shows the key role that digital humanities have to play in conveying this work. The lived experience of war in ways that can speak powerfully to those who are still fortunate enough not to have experienced it for real.”

@dhlabexeter.bsky.socialOct 1, 2026, 9:00 AM

"The recording was produced by a Digital Humanities Lab student intern Evelyn Kenrick, showing how student career development and research projects can go hand-in-hand."

@dhlabexeter.bsky.socialOct 1, 2026, 9:00 AM

"Digital Humanities have continued offering support. This includes Hugh Roberts's recording in 2026 of the audiobook of Hemingway Knows Nothing, forthcoming from Jantar. This is Artur Dron's second, prize-winning book of essays or poems, reflecting on his experiences of war and rehabilitation."

@dhlabexeter.bsky.socialOct 1, 2026, 9:00 AM

"We believe this is the first work of poetry by a serving soldier written since 2022 to be made available in English."

"They offered a showcase that helped secure the interest of the independent, London-based publisher Jantar Publishing. They later secured the rights for Artur Dron's We Were Here, translated by Yuliya Musakovska."

"The YouTube videos raised awareness of this work at a crucial stage when the outpouring of poetry by serving soldiers and others in Ukraine, writing in the face of Russia's full-scale invasion of February 2022, was just starting to become known outside of the country."

@dhlabexeter.bsky.socialOct 1, 2026, 9:00 AM

"The first step in sharing the poetry online began in 2024 with the production of short YouTube videos. Professors Hugh Roberts and Helen Vassallo of the University of Exeter recited poems by serving soldiers Artur Dron' and Liza Zharikova and by the radio personality, Olena Huseinova."
