Today it’s all the Ms with #ManholeCoverMonday from Malmö, in Sweden. The cover bears the coat of arms of Erik of Pomerania from the medieval House of Griffin that ruled Pomerania from Szczecin. Erik, born Bogusław, became king of Denmark, Norway & Sweden & ruler of the Kalmar Union. Fascinating!

A close-up of a round cast-iron manhole cover set into Malmö’s cobbled pavement. It shows Malmö’s coat of arms: a crowned griffin’s head above a shield containing another crowned griffin’s head, with “MALMÖ STAD” on either side. The arms date from 1437, when King Erik of Pomerania granted Malmö its city seal and coat of arms.A sunny cobbled square in central Malmö, with cafés and outdoor seating, historic buildings and a Malmö coat-of-arms manhole cover in the foreground. The prominent brick building behind the square reflects the elaborate architecture of Malmö’s late-19th- and early-20th-century commercial centre. The square also contains mature trees and planters for decoration.
