It was one of the unbelievable ones. An incredibly vibrant array of colors spread across the entire sky before being neatly tucked into the western horizon. Gorgeous, gorgeous stuff.

This has been a broadcast from the Bluesky Celestial Event System. The Bluesky users in your area -- in voluntary cooperation with Federal, state & local authorities -- have developed this system to keep you informed of local Celestial Events. You may now resume your regularly scheduled activities.

I made a map showing the location of extant electrical substations designed by Hermann von Holst (plus three that have been demolished since I started this survey. Others may have been demolished that I don't know about.)
www.google.com/maps/d/edit?...

Former electrical substation at 4401 N. Clifton, Chicago. It is clad in varying shades of red-orange brick. Three dramatic recessed arches decorated with a geometric tile design dominate this side of the building.

Immortalized on a wall in Brooklyn with this welcoming message Artist: SacSix (seen in 2024)

Color photo of street art on a brick wall that has been painted black. Centered is a stylized drawing of the familiar NYC coffee cup with the blue background and the Greek meander. Inside of a white panel decorated with three yellow mugs are the words "Welcome Back. Now Get Out" scrawled in the dripping font favored by serial killers.

Chicago started burning on October 8, 1871. Here is a Chicago magazine story I wrote five years ago, for the 150th anniversary:

I remember being riveted, & also astounded by the enormous amount of work that had to have gone into the tweets
