Can #AI predict the protein changes behind #Alzheimer's and #ALS? 🧬

Investigator Randal Halfmann, Ph.D., will receive ~$4.1M from @arpa-h.bsky.social to generate 10 billion+ measurements to train it, part of a $28.6M national effort led by @innovativegenomics.bsky.social.

Taking big questions to new heights! 👀

Our new #WhatIf banners are officially up around the neighborhood!

Go behind the scenes (and up in the air!) for a unique look at how they got there.

1/n New paper! In collaboration with Angela Gronenborn's lab, we solved the crystal structures of 2 bicycle proteins. They share some similarity to saposins, but are clearly not saposins. Instead, this stable backbone provides a platform for crazy diversity of form and surface chemistry.

(1/2)When #AI couldn’t solve this protein structure, evolution helped scientists show it how. The @gallseeker.bsky.social Lab combined fieldwork, structural #biology + AlphaFold2 to uncover a hidden blueprint shared by thousands of rapidly evolving aphid proteins.
