We also discussed Lithuania's plan to send newly trained doctors to rural areas. I was posted to the middle of nowhere at 24, so I know sticks alone won't work. Good schools, decent infrastructure and a life worth living are what make doctors stay.
Imagine paying $8,500 to get one paper published in a journal. In some countries, that's a postdoc's salary for a year. Scientists do the research, peer reviewers work for free, and then access gets sold back to us. That's not a fair system.
