Figure 1 in Vergin et al. (2026): "Study area showing the wintering sites Vinge and Nørreådalen used by Taiga Bean Geese in central Jutland, Denmark. Vinge is characterized by agricultural fields, especially winter cereals, and is the focus area of a planned renewable energy cluster. Lake Tjele Langsø is the nearest night roost used by geese in this region. Nørreådalen is characterized by wet semi‑natural pastures, with night roost possibilities on the Nørreå river or on nearby (permanently or temporarily) flooded pastures. GPS‑tracked individuals included in the analysis were captured in Lille Vildmose, approximately 60 km northeast of these wintering sites. The map was created in ArcGIS Pro v3.1.0"

New publication: Tolerance for #heatstress in #Lemnaminor reflects both local adaptation and acclimation over time, by @marioblancosanchez.bsky.social @kjfverhoeven.bsky.social. #climatechange
doi.org/10.1016/j.en...

Figure 1 in Blanco-Sánchez et al. (2026): "a) Source locations of the 18 clonal lines studied. Clonal lines are represented by different colors that reflect variation in temperature of origin, with slight adjustments to color palette to enhance visualization (i.e., warmer vs cooler colors denote lines from warmer vs cooler locations; see Table 1). This palette is maintained throughout all figures; b) Schematic representation of the experimental design. Eighteen Lemna minor clonal lines were grown under four constant temperature treatments (18 °C, 23 °C, 28 °C, and 33 °C), with two replicates per line and temperature, for five consecutive weeks (N = 720 experimental units). Each week, the relative growth rate (RGR) of each replicate was calculated from the change in total plant area over seven days; c) Spatial arrangement of jars within each growth chamber (see Methods for spatial blocking details). The first replicate of each line was randomly assigned to a 4 × 5 grid (block), and this arrangement was mirrored laterally in a second spatial block, creating an 8 × 5 grid such that each line had one replicate positioned near the chamber walls and one in the inner area, thereby balancing light exposure and any other spatial effects. Different clonal lines are represented with different colors, matching those in panel a)."

@niooknaw.bsky.socialSep 25, 2026, 1:52 PM

@niooknaw.bsky.socialSep 25, 2026, 5:33 AM

Interested in #ecological #research? Visit our #OpenDay on 3 October. Our theme 'Nature's networks' not only applies to ecological connections, but also to the opportunity of visitors to connect with our researchers. Come #network with us! More info: nioo.knaw.nl/en/events/bi...

Figure 1 in Bisschop et al. (2026): "Environmental and demographic stochasticity. All institutes (institute A and B) performed an identical evolutionary experiment where C. elegans and microbial communities evolved on a novel resource, the primary treatment (Tr. 1). The controlled conditions during the experiments (temperature and other climate attributes, as well as food source) were kept similar (indicated with the thermometer symbol), but the uncontrolled conditions were different (e.g., institute microbiota in different colours, and institute handling routines as symbolised with the hand icons), resulting in environmental heterogeneity across institutes. Furthermore, all institutes except one conducted a second treatment (Tr. 2) which differed between institutes and resulted in demographic heterogeneity across treatments."
