Fifty years over beech seed production. Started by Hans van Balen and now cleaned up and made FAIR by Cherine Jantzen. Great work Cherine! And the 51st survey has been done already.

Interested in the ecological consequences of gamebird releases?

Join us for a 3.5-year PhD project @exeter.ac.uk and @uniexecec.bsky.social. This project will investigate how gamebird releases affect (a) tick abundance and tick-borne disease risk (Lyme disease), and (b) reptile populations.

New publication: Additive effects of environmental and demographic variation shape the repeatability of #evolution across replicated experiments, by @kjfverhoeven.bsky.social @mevisser.bsky.social and others. #naturalselection #microbiome
doi.org/10.1093/evle...

Figure 1 in Bisschop et al. (2026): "Environmental and demographic stochasticity. All institutes (institute A and B) performed an identical evolutionary experiment where C. elegans and microbial communities evolved on a novel resource, the primary treatment (Tr. 1). The controlled conditions during the experiments (temperature and other climate attributes, as well as food source) were kept similar (indicated with the thermometer symbol), but the uncontrolled conditions were different (e.g., institute microbiota in different colours, and institute handling routines as symbolised with the hand icons), resulting in environmental heterogeneity across institutes. Furthermore, all institutes except one conducted a second treatment (Tr. 2) which differed between institutes and resulted in demographic heterogeneity across treatments."

Great that this interesting paper is out now! Many thanks to @sevans.bsky.social for all his hard work on this. Nice example of the value of long term studies!
