I think the Arne Moors project is a great scheme and is creating some fantastic wildlife habitat, whilst aiming to protect low lying land in Wareham and Poole from future flooding Its a shame that there wasnt the same foresight wrt car parking which would have brought in extra funds to Arne

Some wonderfully obliging birds outside the Tern Hide in various weathers this week... grey plover, greenshank, barwit, blackwit, redshank, avocet, little egret #WildBrownsea @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

Agreed. Have to hope that when Arne Moors opens, that there will be better access to Sunnyside. Otherwise, the layby opposite will hold 2 cars with the next in Ridge

Sorry but this is utter nonsense. They are invasive and they are pests, these are facts no matter how you try and dress it up. True compassion means looking after our native species and protecting their habitats.

The ironic thing is the contractors trashed a large field to put in hard standing for their heavy plant construction vehicles. This would be ideal to leave as a car park. All it would need would be a ticket machine, maybe a toilet, maybe a volunteer hut & some foresight for planning permission

I raised the lack of car parking options at two public consultation in Wareham (prior to C19) so the RSPB can't say it was never raised as a worry The reality is a major twitch there will result in a lot of cars parked in Ridge which was also something I pointed out

@staldhelmsbirder.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 6:12 PM

Arne Moors looking good this PM from Slepe Heath But still think there will be a major parking issue when we get a Pratincole, Sandplover, Broad-billed or Terek Sand etcthere as Sunnyside can only hold 15 or so cars and RSPB refused to consider a car park to appease Ridge residents

Much as I like Grey Squirrels, if somebody came up with a silver bullet solution to eradicate them from the UK without adversely impacting our native wildlife, then I for one would back its use @protectthewild.bsky.social

Agree Greys didnt ask to be come to UK, but it would be good if you pointed out the damage Greys have done to our native Red Squirrels by passing on Squirrel pox, which is often fatal to Reds & by outcompeting them using their larger size & more agressive nature

Nice to find the site's first #GreatNorthernDiver of the autumn 🍁 distantly off the Point at S Devon's #HopesNose this morning. A true harbinger of the advancing season. Yesterday's Cetti's Warbler still present but elusively calling from deep scrub. #UKBirding #DevonBirds @birdtrack.bsky.social

Just happened to be in Lyme Regis with my wife this afternoon when I received a message from Paul Temple of a Grey Phalarope there. Managed to locate it on the sea close in to the Cobb wall about 50yrds off Monmouth beach. Phone pic...
