@silverscreenriot.bsky.socialThe horror genre has been on an absolute tear this decade, so I did the only reasonable thing and ranked all the best horror movies of the 2020s (so far).
Let me know what I missed.
@silverscreenriot.bsky.socialThe Social Network is a brilliant film. The Social Reckoning is decidedly not. This Facebook Files followup is badly in need of a director with style, craft, and instead feels like a series of underlined headlines about the horrors Zuckerberg endorsed.
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social'Big Girls Don't Cry' is a NZ coming-of-age story with familiar overtones but the specificity of character and place make it a worthwhile story. In limited theater starting this Friday.

@silverscreenriot.bsky.socialA layered documentary about the costs of chasing records in modern mountaineering as the pursuit becomes increasingly “accessible” to paid adventurers. ‘The Last First: Winter K2′ is a foreseeable tragedy of epic proportions with one hell of a backdrop. silverscreenriot.com/sundance-26-...
@silverscreenriot.bsky.socialCynical and exhausting, Iñárritu's climate-disaster satire 'Digger' - starring a physically-transformed Tom Cruise - is a menagerie of broad swings and character pantomimes posing as intelligent, pressing parody. Spoiler alert: it's not.

@silverscreenriot.bsky.socialI hear the host is really hot and cool
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social'The Incomer' is a quirky, recluse Sundance comedy starring Domhnall Gleeson that's destined to probably be an under-watched, under-appreciated gem. But you can attempt to right that ship by seeing it in theaters starting today. Highly recommend! silverscreenriot.com/sundance-26-...
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social‘Heart of the Beast’ is an economical, effective survival thriller that features arguably the best dog performance ever put to screen. Pitt is good too. silverscreenriot.com/heart-of-the...
@silverscreenriot.bsky.socialA crowd-pleasing and playful story about finding the will to move on through the power of dance, ‘Ha-Chan Shake Your Booty’ shines brightest when it embraces its goofiness and lets the music lead. It’s a delightful, high-spirited burst of joy.
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social‘Primetime’ digs into the nasty business behind catching predators and the questionable morals of Chris Hansen’s methodology. But for all its visual confidence and a first-rate cast, it never feels all that revelatory or essential.
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social'Resident Evil' is a balls-to-the-walls horror-comedy that easily claims the title of the best video game movie of all time. That said, it's definitely not his best movie. Nevertheless, it's a ton of fun. silverscreenriot.com/resident-evi...
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social‘The Weight’ features Ethan Hawke as a wrongly imprisoned man forced to smuggle gold for a corrupt warden. From its deep woods prohibition setting to its workmanlike pacing this is the kind of bushwhacking survival movie that any dad should love.
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social'How To with John Wilson' fans rejoice! 'The History of Concrete' (not to be confused with cement) is totally just a longer episode of his celebrated HBO series with all the weird little observations on modern day living that comes with that. silverscreenriot.com/the-history-...
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social'If I Go Will They Miss Me?' from Walter Thompson-Hernández’ paints an impactful portrait of a frayed relationship between a distant father and his impressionable son in the projects. In its best moments, the work is reminiscent of Barry Jenkins. silverscreenriot.com/sundance-26-...
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social‘Hope’ - from South Korea - is a better alien movie than anything Hollywood has made in the last decade+. A breathtakingly staged sci-fi thriller with elite production details. It’s a bummer they forgot to include an actual ending though.
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social‘Onslaught’ is a blast - a throwback asskicker that nods to similarly silly survival thrillers of its ilk from the 80s. Adam Wingard is back baby.
@silverscreenriot.bsky.socialI liked the pretty people too 😉
@silverscreenriot.bsky.social‘Idiots’ - formerly ‘The Shitheads’ - is a road comedy movie about two shitheads transporting a third shithead to rehab. It has some funny moments and Dave Franco is going for broke here but it never feels like more than the sum of its parts.
