My latest to Walmart. To regain trust in a time of economic and technological uncertainty: Pull back the pending patents. Relinquish the existing patents. Get an independent audit of pricing. Tell shoppers what data Sparky has & how it is safeguarded & used.
Lots of folks covering this as “he said, she said.” In reality, it’s “he said, he said.” Walmart is telling on itself — at the patent office, on earnings calls, in its filings. My job is to put a spotlight on it. Consumers aren’t stupid. They can read the writing on the wall.
When corporate CEOs brag to Wall Street about gouging consumers, they should know: she's listening.
New profile out today from @chafkin.bsky.social for @bloomberg.com on our @lindsayowens.bsky.social, the corporate earnings calls she can’t stop listening to, and her new book, "Gouged."
It was such a joy to have Max at @groundwork.bsky.social for 2 days this past March to cover our work. Seeing the org through new eyes gave me a deeper appreciation for our incredible team. I’m so proud of our impact & work to hold corporations accountable. He even previews what’s next!
Delighted to discuss my new book Sea Change, and why the US China conflict revolves around maritime capacity in this @nytopinion.nytimes.com guest essay: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/07/o...
My response to Walmart.
You may not have noticed it at first. Maybe it was the price of a cup of coffee — $4.25 for a drip, up 50 cents from last week.
Across industries, corporations are using new technology to overcharge consumers on almost everything. We must stop them. @lindsayowens.bsky.social in @bostonglobe.com:
For about a century the price tag was tied to the product (cost plus margin), so you paid what the person behind you in line paid. That norm is now eroding, chart @lindsayowens.bsky.social @ProSyn

Best 3 things about writing a book I didn’t expect.
1. People send you pics of their cute kids reading your book.
2. Lengthy but brilliant goodreads reviews.
3. People send you pics of your book on shelves in bookstores across the country.
Thanks guys! bit.ly/GougedPRH
Corporations have gotten really good at ripping us off – from the grocery aisle to our online shopping carts to the gas pump.
The whole game is rigged.
These are the tricks and schemes @lindsayowens.bsky.social lays out in "Gouged", available everywhere now.
Thanks to @adamconover.net!
Shoppers know the deck is stacked in favor of corporations, and they’re tired of being spied on and ripped off.
A reckoning is long overdue. In "Gouged", @lindsayowens.bsky.social lays out the path forward: the Shoppers’ Bill of Rights.
Talk is cheap. The patent office doesn’t lie. Walmart's CEO swears they won't use surveillance pricing on its shoppers. But its own patent applications tell a different story: Walmart is building an arsenal of new technologies designed to squeeze consumers.
Very cool to see. Thanks @morningjoe-msnow.bsky.social!
Putting food on the table and a roof over your head is hard enough without greedy corporations squeezing you for all you’re worth, writes @lindsayowens.bsky.social of @groundwork.bsky.social.
Thanks Sam! That’s incredibly kind and glad you enjoyed it. Maybe you can help us with our shoppers bill of rights soon. Would love your take.
Just tore through Gouged by @lindsayowens.bsky.social . If you care about affordability, you should read this book to see a whole bunch of ways businesses scheme to charge you more and pay you less. Some of it's already illegal, lots of it should be. bookshop.org/p/books/goug...
Stubhub was just caught charging people different prices for the same ticket to the same show.
As @lindsayowens.bsky.social told @nbcnews.com: “It’s not the resale ticket holder who’s getting that money. It’s StubHub, who’s charging some concertgoers more just to see their favorite show.”
A huge thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the release of @lindsayowens.bsky.social’s “Gouged”!
Special thanks to @warren.senate.gov and @ronanfarrow.bsky.social for joining Lindsay on stage to talk corporate power, consumer rip-offs, and how we fight back.
What a night.
Top notch art from @thenation.com
My new piece in @thenation.com celebrating @mayor.nyc.gov, @saalevine.bsky.social, & @juliesulabor.bsky.social on the 1st day of click-to-cancel in NYC—saving New Yorkers more than $1 million & at least 600,000 hours/year. (And a fun anecdote about my youthful dalliance w/ the Columbia Record Club).
