A little frustrating that Anthropic's PR team can have a claim like: "Claude was also not trained on any user transcripts" published here, which seems to be clearly contradicted by their other public claims, e.g. privacy.claude.com/en/articles/...

My department, Berkeley bioengineering, is looking for an assistant professor in cell engineering. It's a truly lovely place to launch your career. aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF05476
Argues a bad mentor "is not something that a union can fix." Which is partially true - but a union sets a baseline standard of treatment. In particular, the example where the author was fired and needed to appeal to the chair of the department (!?!) - seems like something a union would prevent.
This article is 90% condescension by weight. I think there are only two actual arguments in here that I'd consider nontrivial. One is that faculty can't support increased salary without increased grants. This is mostly true, but also unavoidable and irrelevant to mentor-mentee relationship.
