@dsallentess.bsky.social last night at the Commonwealth Beacon debate 🔥

How can we move forward with other electoral reform if the legislature doesn’t listen to us? #mapoli

~1/8 of 1% of MA voters currently decide who gets on the ballot. Question 3's all-party primary would move that consolidation into the open—where all voters can see it. California fearing doesn't hold up to the data.

Curious about why the NAACP New England Area Conference supports Question 3?

I'm seeing arguments against Question 3 that basically amount to uncompetitive general elections are a good thing. The idea that it's bad for working class candidates because they'd have to campaign for more. Or that primaries create a pipeline for progressive groups.

Democracy is a culture — not just a system. I spoke with Eric Liu who made that case in a rich conversation around his new book, *Live Like a Citizen*. Thoughtful, warm, and worth your weekend.

@dsallentess.bsky.social does a great job uncovering a mostly forgotten 18th C. British peer who was way ahead of his time on ideas like "each district electing a legislator should have about the same number of people in it." Something we didn't get around to doing until well within living memory.

From The Renovator: www.democracyrenovator.com/p/a-mail-vot... Trump flip-flopped on mail voting. DOJ filed misconduct complaints against nearly all Minnesota's federal judges. ICE collected ~100M voter records. $80M in AI political ads — 69% without disclosure. A lot. The weekly roundup has it all.

The President vs. every member of Congress COMBINED. Guess who made more personal financial trades? Donald Trump — with 28,000+ trades. Stock trading by top government officials should be illegal—no owning, buying, or selling stocks.

155 of 200 MA legislative seats have no major party competition this November. Question 3 would fix that with an all-party primary — every candidate on one ballot, top two advance. #Yeson3 #RealChoicesinNovember #ALegislatureThatListens

Hamilton knew formal war declarations wouldn't be the real check on executive power. He counted on elections and state rivalry instead. Those mechanisms are triggering right now. Exactly as designed. Beautiful to see. www.democracyrenovator.com/p/can-the-fe...

A third of Americans can't name the three branches of government. District leaders want civics taught — until it touches national politics. And Lonnie Bunch is leaving the Smithsonian. Big week in civic ed.

Check out this from The Renovator: www.democracyrenovator.com/p/missouris-... Missouri's map changed 5 times in 3 weeks. SCOTUS killed the gerrymander — but the same day greenlit SAVE checks on voter rolls. Ballots are out. Texas has 178K backlogged registrations. A lot is moving.
