Crucial new information on the state of European larger moths. Still lots to lean but these two reports really advance our knowledge. Huge thanks to all involved

Agree it looks like a candidate for Spiny. I'm still inclined to dissect these, at least when they are new for a site (males are easy to distinguish). Plenty of Box-tree Moth still flying now! upperthamesmoths.co.uk/micros.php?b...

On NBN you can filter for species = "Biota" and then use the list records option - will send that as well. Most are birds as BTO is biggest data provider.

Have just emailed you a top 100 from iRecord, since I know how to extract that easily!

Haven't ever tried this, and off the top of my head I'm not sure if it's possible - am offline this evening but will have a look when I get a chance

So you've found a waxcap, now what? There are a few key features you should note in your comments when recording on CEDaR Online Recording or iRecord. These are cap colour & texture, stipe/stem colour & texture and how the gills are attached to the stipe.

Excitement in the post today - the new book on The Glow-worm by my friend and long-time volunteer at @bbowt.bsky.social Dancersend Nature Reserve, John Tyler. It is a magnificent new version of the small book he self-published 30 years ago, now 168 pages with lots of new content and superb photos.

On 21st September I found some larval spinnings of Tebenna micalis (Beautiful Twitcher) on Fleabane at Pembrey (Carmarthenshire). I collected a few for rearing and over the last few days three of the beautiful little jewel-like adults have emerged.

Yesterday, I went for a short potter in Carr's Wood. Found hundreds of these tiny Dacne rufifrons, one of the so-called 'pleasing fungus beetles' (Erotylidae) on the underside of an old Dryad's Saddle fungus.
