My poem, "Babylon's Daughter" is in the new issue of Mount Carmel Magazine. The issue is dedicated to St. John of the Cross, and my poem is a riff on John's riff of Psalm 137 💙 St. John's mentor was my girl, St. Teresa of Ávila. @carmelitespirit.bsky.social

“I think I existed for a great amount of time in my life in a mode of silence, to the extent that I even convinced myself that silence was a form of protest,” Tran admitted. “But I’m 57, and I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to live. I want to exist.”—Truong Tran

Living Halloween decoration out the back of my house.

A big spider web illuminated strand by silver strand at night by a back porch light, with a spider at the center.

Gotta get this anthology—and yes do find your way back to poetry @coastalpoet.bsky.social ❤️ September and October are always super-busy months and it’s easy to get swept up in all the activity and to skip introspection. Saying this for myself, too.

Friends, I have a new translation coming out in 2027 from El Martillo Press and let’s just say it’s a 180 from my St. Teresa book.💙📚

Teresa of Ávila (1515-1582), painted by Rubens. Teresa wears the brown and white nun’s habit of her Carmelite Order. She writes with a quill in a bound notebook, as befits one of the great stylists and literary genre-busters in history. I translated Teresa’s poetry and wrote essays about her in my book, Sweet Hunter, published by Monkfish in 2024. https://indiepubs.com/products/sweet-hunter-9781958972496Black, red, and white abstract image for Speculari, a recording of sound poetry by contemporary Mexican poet Rocío Cerón. The sound album became Cerón’s book, Áurica Speculari, which I have translated from Spanish to English. Forthcoming in 2027 from El Martillo Press.

AUBADE. You, my luculent one...
The sky, just restored to blue,
has in it a ghostly stone, blunted
to a pearl-like lumen I have hunted,
if not to possess, then construe
as my call to brighten . . .

Hey Poets of Bluesky! Our fall issue comes out in November 2026. We have a slate of great poems lined up.

You can still send poems, but please know they will be considered for 2027, since 2026 is full up. Submit 4-6 poems to our poetry editor @danadelibovi.bsky.social at [email protected].

turn your face again / toward me Frank Bidart

THE YOKE

don't worry
I know you're dead
but tonight
turn your face again
toward me
when I hear your voice there is now
no direction in which to turn
I sleep and wake and sleep and wake and sleep and wake and
but tonight
turn your face again
toward me
see
upon my shoulders is the yoke
that is not a yoke
don't worry
I know you're dead
but tonight
turn your face again
