@benpate I really want matrix to work, I really do... but man I _hate_ using it.

They need some UX designers to take over product development for the next decade.

When KDE was at its worst, I could still enjoy the user experience, but matrix is another beast. I get such weird problems in both […]

@aj It is almost like... she is alienated from the production that results from her labour? hmmm...

"The People Holding Up The Internet" Real examples of the people behind critical projects thanklessly maintained by one random person in Nebraska since 2003, underlying all modern infrastructure. (Well, not Nebraska or 2003 specifically, but you know the XKCD.) […]

Correction it is an arraylist of int array arrays! This is fucking hard to read! I still haven't figured out what ngrams are being shoved in this thing. The ngrams that could end in this word, or the ngrams that this word starts. May I please have some more abstraction sir? *grovelling with […]

No.

Whoever did this should apologize to me, personally.

https://github.com/HeliBorg/HeliBoard/blob/main/app/src/main/jni/src/utils/jni_data_utils.cpp

This is so painful to read. I don't know whose fault this is, the people that came up with the JNI or the person who wrote this. But I am in […]

If someone genuinely, provably, does a perfect byte for byte decompilation of any arbitrary binary I can give them, but now it's magically written in rust no matter what the unknown source language was of the original binary, I'll pay for an LLM subscription. No joke. This would be the first […]

@theeclecticdyslexic.mstdn.social.ap.brid.gyOct 8, 2026, 7:03 AM

LLM boosters that don't know how compilers work are now claiming that you can do byte for byte decompilation by brute force guess and check now? There are so many problems here I just can't even, nor can I odd. The only way this works is if you have a compiler capable of reproducible builds […]

Serious question, is there any precedent of people who have tried to sue the various tech companies for collecting data on them, using typical recording consent laws? (1 party / 2 party whatever) If someone can't sign a contract for you, certainly they can't sign the EULA for you with regards […]

@thedansimonson I wouldn't even give it that much credit. It's a great way to obliterate fuel tax revenue for the next many years, because it becomes unenforceable the moment you allow dyed diesel in any vehicle it otherwise would normally not be allowed in.

It also puts an otherwise controlled […]

@theeclecticdyslexic.mstdn.social.ap.brid.gyOct 6, 2026, 11:08 PM

@thedansimonson yep, my favourite part is this is I don't suspect it will improve when the financials catch up, the local models will happily scrape Wikipedia pages they aren't actually making use of as well

@theeclecticdyslexic.mstdn.social.ap.brid.gyOct 6, 2026, 10:36 PM

@thedansimonson it's because the scraping is happening at inference time, over and over. They don't want to host a mirror.

@jonesmurphy racism on Xitter? Surely you jest. /s

Most things I've learned about the c++ in #Heliboard have been annoying lol.

There are so many c-strings on the stack...

Also, apparently, to pass a mutable reference to a primitive in the JNI, the author(s) really liked the trick of putting 1 item in an array.

I don't understand why there […]

@glyph I don't doubt that there were real vulnerablities being found, perhaps even often at one point?

I think, though, that the classes of bugs that LLMs readily find are pretty low hanging fruit. After you run the LLM over a codebase a few times, you are going to run out of low hanging fruit […]

If you/your project is affected by DigitalOcean stopping their OSS credits program, please shoot me a PM immediately. Might be able to help.

Boosts for visibility would be appreciated.

@arjen @timnitGebru @emilymbender

Fabulated is a good word here.

"confabulation" is the only word I'm comfortable using when describing LLM output, and I would say all of it falls into this category, regardless of if it's accurate to reality or not.

@WeirdWriter when people tell me that they think people are just next token predictors, I believe they mean it... but they probably wish I didn't.

@theeclecticdyslexic.mstdn.social.ap.brid.gyOct 3, 2026, 8:14 PM

@glyph I am confident that I wouldn't be able to make this assessment if I was using them.

I'm very certain I would fail to get this correct, even if I tried measuring, because the attempt to measure would very likely be poorly controlled. (Especially when you take into account additional bugs […]

[Evil nerds being cheesy (derogatory)] I just learned that Greg Brockman signs as "gdb". For real? Come on. I am a huge nerd, but I can't fathom signing my name as a 3 letter cli program in all lowercase printed like that... Much less on publicly available government documents. Does his middle […]
