I heard some people say that if there is one photo of you online then it doesn't matter if you post more "since your face is already in their system" they say this to feel better about posting lots of photos and video. However this isn't true. Less information is better. If there are only a few […]
@paninid I wonder if there are better metaphors for the healthy concept you have in mind that aren't so easily appropriated by capitalists justifying their behavior and ideology.
@paninid I'm sure some people *mean well* with the concept of "growth mindset", but the idea that you need to be constantly growing and cannot accept limits is the mindset of a cancer cell not of a living being in equilibrium with their fellow beings and environment. It's the mindset of […]
@paninid Or between the life mindset and the cancer mindset?
@jonshell Are leaking coils a common failure mode? I thought flaky controls, broken ice makers, worn hinges and seal strips causing doors not to close and seal right, etc. were much more common causes for replacement. Also stupid stuff like cosmetic damage that's hard to fix.
It is pure madness that we build appliances intended to be sent to the landfill. Refrigerators are almost entirely disposable. Leaks in refrigerant coils embedded in foam insulation are not repairable. Older designs were better but in general, refrigerators haven't had a lot of design love with […]
We've got someone attempting UVMAX on Profane Promiseland again! 🔥 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g21z6hiBd2w

I have posted in the past on repairability and repair-hostile appliance design practices. Let's integrate a couple of lines of thought: Firstly, our planet's resources are finite. Secondly, we're in late-stage exploitation capitalism. Thirdly, we have a mature ecosystem of open source […]
I wrote this on the long word count server about the current turnitin debacle. I'm sad, upset and miserable about the state of affairs that is academic writing.

@Hex I was thinking something very similar this morning in the context of AI "solving math problems" via academic espionage.
The chatbots themselves obviously do not have agency or intelligence. But they are part of a parasitic emergent "hive mind" phenomenon that is exploiting real human minds […]
I've been rolling over something in my mind for the past couple of days, tumbling this way and that. It's still not completely smooth, but there are so many interesting implications that it might be worth a glance in it's rough form.
By happenstance I started digging in to critical #cybernetics […]
"Actually you never enjoyed using the internet back then. You fool. You absolute buffoon" would be a funny take relative to how prevalent it is (in extremely-online spaces like here) if it weren't also so pathetic. Some folks feel a burning need to smother joy wherever it is found
@wezm hahaha funny typo they spelled “fuck” as “thank”
@donmoyn.bsky.social Such a pathetic attitude. If someone is "the second most powerful person in the world", you say no to anything they ask of you, precisely because they are. How is this hard?

OMG ICE just shot someone in Marble Hill! There was a five year old kid in the back of the car. Marble Hill is in the Bronx, although technically it's part of Manhattan. It's a quiet almost suburban like neighborhood. I have family who lives there. (They are OK.) I think they said the man who […]
man I _really_ do not like the way that Mastodon presents being blocked. I do not begrudge anyone the right to block me, but the fact that mid-conversation all their posts just gradually start disappearing as if the server is having an outage, and replies start intermittently failing, even […]
