Garden wildlife. I think this is a final instar nymph of a Southern Green Shieldbug (Nezara viridula), though it was quite dark. Found in the garden waste bin today, and released back in the bushes! @bugmanjones.bsky.social #londonwildlfe.
Garden wildlife. Some Fox photos. First 'white tip' curled up in the garden yesterday afternoon, then the 3 cubs feeding and the vixen (Mum) last night (phone photo), and finally one of the cubs (not 'white tip') looking for food under the bird feeders this morning. ๐งก๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ
Sutton Peregrines. Both adult males were sitting quite close to each other this morning, the older one briefly leaving to engage with a couple of Crows but returning to the same spot on the corner. The 2025 male has quite a full crop too! #londonbirds
Garden wildlife. An Anyphaena numida found on the kitchen ceiling this morning. Very sprightly once caught, and even when in the pint glass it was photographed in it was able to scale the sides effortlessly. Released on the shed where there are others. @britishspiders.bsky.social #londonwildlife
@stephenmossauthor.bsky.social 's 'The Puffin: A Biography' is already on sale in @waterstones.bsky.social . There were three copies at the Sutton branch this morning, though there are now only two! I've had a quick browse already, and am looking forward to reading it properly.
Garden wildlife. A rather nice Lacewing on the back door last night. Probably, but not definitely, Common Green Lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea). I've always been fascinated by these! #londonwildlife
Garden wildlife. Last night I found a Segestria florentina on the shed. I have around 25-30 here now, but so far they have all been on the house itself or on a fence close/parallel to the side of the house, 1.5/2m from it. This was about 5/6m away from the nearest fence one. #britishspiders
Garden wildlife. Last night the Zoropsis spinimana on the outside of the shed was feeding on something - difficult to ID, though it did appear to be one of the Anyphaena numidas that are also out and about on the shed at the moment, and likely passing quite close to each other. #Britishspiders
Garden wildlife. The vixen (the mother of the cubs) came to be fed quite early today at about 17.00. The cubs were a bit later as usual, and it was by then getting dark. ๐งก๐ฆ #londonwildlife
Garden wildlife. A few photos of one of the Fox cubs (white tip) last night. #londonwildlife
Garden wildlife. A lovely Zoropsis spinimana on the shed last night. Possibly my favourite spider, and one I've seen fairly regularly here over the last few years. And a second one was inside the shed too - only underside views of that one, but they're quite distinctive! @britishspiders.bsky.social
Garden wildlife. 4 different Anyphaena numidas on the shed last night - there may have been more! @britishspiders.bsky.social #londonwildlife
Garden wildlife. A not great photo of a Common Pipistrelle Bat from last night - it's an enlargement of a a screenshot taken from a phone video. I often see these, and occasionally Soprano Pipistrelles. #londonwildlife
3/3. And this is the older male trying to take prey from his son, the 2025 male!
2/3. This is a clip of the female early in the mist.
Sutton Peregrines. 1/3. All 3 adults were present together when I checked this morning. In this 1st photo it was the female on top, the older male left and the 2025 male to the right.
2/2. And that one was curled up asleep in an old bird bath I no longer use because it's cracked and leaks. 'White tip' did subsequently move to sleep close to its sibling, interacting with it a bit too. ๐งก๐ฆ๐ฆ #londonwildlife
Garden wildlife. 1/2. Some photos of Fox cubs from today. These first four are of 'white tip', the second in which it's clearly very relaxed! When it move to the position in the 4th photo I noticed movement behind it, and saw a second cub where I didn't expect - see 2/2 for more!
Garden wildlife. House Sparrows bathing earlier today - I'm not sure why they suddenly decide at some random time that it's bath time! #londonbirds
