From @wsj.com: The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,066 confirmed cases of #measles since April.

@jennifernuzzo.bsky.social shared that as long as measles continues to circulate within the US it will find its way into “exquisitely vulnerable communities and cause massive outbreaks.”

"You don’t quarantine 200 people for one #plague case. You don’t close multiple hospital units in response to one infection.”

@jennifernuzzo.bsky.social shared w/ @krcallaway.bsky.social on the critical information that we still don't have after the death of a Russian lab worker, via @nytimes.com.

A new @time.com piece highlights public health experts concerns over Russia's plague incident, where around 200 people were quarantined.

As @jennifernuzzo.bsky.social notes, it doesn't look like a simple lab accident it may be something different, something for which we don't have easy solutions.

WATCH NOW Professor @craigspencer.bsky.social spoke with @democracynow.org about what is now the fastest-growing #Ebola outbreak ever.

"In the past, we would have sent people to be on the ground in the middle of these communities that are most affected. Right now the US is not doing that," he says.

Funding cuts and active health crises leave us unprepared for new threats.

As @jennifernuzzo.bsky.social warns: “God forbid you layer another pathogen onto the already laborious and difficult work of going after measles, that would be a nightmare.”

@pandemiccenter.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 3:58 PM

The death of a researcher studying #plague has put many on edge. While the disease remains endemic in parts of the world, post-pandemic biosecurity lessons are begging to fade.

As @bethcameron-dc.bsky.social notes, we need a rational conversation on threats with “large-scale societal consequences.”

Pneumonic #plague still occurs today in places like Arizona and New Mexico. Questions surround details over a Russian lab worker's death at a plague facility.

There may be commonplace explanations, but we are, so far, unable to rule out more concerning explanations. — @jennifernuzzo.bsky.social
