On that note...
New vidéo with @justhaveathink.bsky.social looking at the effects of El Niño on Antarctica.
Check out the companion vid on Dave's channel where we investigate the impacts on the Arctic.
How do we make economics value a liveable climate as much as we value wealth?

Number 4 on the Climate News Weekend Watchlist is a new video by @drgilbz.bsky.social discussing how neo-liberalism misunderstands the costs of climate change, and asks if capitalism can “fix” climate change.

"In a world with finite resources, expensive and unproven geoengineering solutions should not be a priority, rather, we should prioritise the simple stuff we know works."
Writing last week for @opendemocracy.net about the @unep.org report on overshoot.
Our focus always has to be on cutting emissions. There's no way to get around that.
Hottest UK summer on record. No big surprise there.
Climate heating ratcheted the likelihood, severity & impacts of the heatwaves and drought.
This year's record heat was around 130x more likely thanks to climate change.
But the record won't stand for long.
On the one hand, some people want to make it so that kids and other people aren't crushed to death by cars. On the other hand, some people are upset that they might have to pay attention, slow down or be inconvenienced by about 15 seconds. So you can see how it's a "war on cars."

"we project a sharp rise in the number of glaciers disappearing worldwide, peaking between 2041 and 2055 with up to ~4,000 glaciers vanishing annually."
Interesting, I'll give that a read!
It was good to talk with Ella about food, climate change, energy, and much more. Rarely have the opportunity to talk a bit more widely. You can see from the sheen that it was recorded during one of the heatwaves.
I spoke to @profpaulbehrens.bsky.social about the impacts of climate heating on food systems.
He's worried, and so am I.

Nobody asked for this. I'd much rather have a liveable planet that isn't on fire/underwater than endless AI slop for Elon and Donald to post on twitter.
I may not be a bro, but I *have* started a podcast series 😂...
... and episode 1 is live now with the most excellent @climateadam.bsky.social
We chat about our fave way to fight the climate crisis: talking about it.
Europe's on fire. And it's cos we're super-heating our climate.
