“What this amounts to is a purported defender of free speech at the state department using the enormous power of the US government to try to pressure Americans from criticizing their government,”

We need to be less hysterical about potential AMOC collapse in 2100 and way more hysterical about the actual mega El Niño in 2027.

On 18th Nov the QRA will be celebrating the first #QuaternaryPride following on from the success of #PolarPride.
But we need your help to cheer up our mammoth mascot by giving them a name! Comment or email [email protected] with your ideas by 18th October for the chance to WIN some QRA swag.

I often see people argue that clean energy is not reducing emissions, because it just adds to rather than replaces fossil fuels. This argument is deeply misguided – clean energy built since 2005 has displaced 23 billion tons. I dive in over at The Climate Brink:

I want to say it was a pleasure, but it was pretty sad to be discussing the massive scale mass loss from Swiss glaciers with DW News today. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzt5... @matthias-huss.bsky.social

Switzerland's glacier report 2026 is out.

Swiss glaciers have lost 5% of their ice volume this year. Only the last 5 years accounted for nearly 20% of the total ice loss across Switzerland. The numbers are devastating.

Your feedback helps me to understand what is working well, and areas where I can make positive changes. It may be used to support future funding applications, to help keep AG running smoothly, freely available, to support payment of guest contributors, & maintenance, development and hosting costs.

The world has made real progress in steering away from some of the darkest climate futures where global emissions doubled (or more) this century. But as David Wallace-Wells and I note in today's NYT, we are not out of the woods yet, and climate uncertainty is not our friend: www.nytimes.com/2026...

My feeling is that if you want to bring the politicians on side, it has to be focused on the economic impacts. Often not what motivates scientists but important for getting politicians to listen and take action

What are known causal factors behind rock-ice avalanche near Nepal–Tibet border? @wwattribution.bsky.social Vulnerable slope, potentially weakened by 2015 earthquake, definitely destabilised by climate change through glacier retreat & permafrost thaw. www.worldweatherattribution.org/rapid-warmin...

The warmer our climate gets, the more unstable our mountains and the more likely the tragic events of August 26th in Nepal.
