I approve of this method of proving humanity. Much better than asking me to tick all the boxes containing buses or whatever. (Seen at a UK National Archives survey)
@keefeglise yeah efficient AI is a myth, what if they are really offensive idiots like Bender from Futurama. I’ve seen Copilot’s internal monologue and it’s clearly only a few version numbers away from substance abuse
@keefeglise is it possible that it is hanging around on the landing hoping to trip you up?
@stephenkb.bsky.social I still can’t get beyond the idea that people somehow think there are different rules for a national identity beginning with B compared to one beginning with E. It is so absurd and stupid. Identity is evidently subjective and additive
This is not my area of expertise and I will probably delete eventually. But I have just encountered this a bit too much in discussions recently: if you want a strong social state, you need to make sure it does not feel completely loopsided where one group pays for the other - and ONLY for the other.
@groda.eu it does, see biweekly etc. the best bet is to choose the lower implied frequency for meetings. See also quintennial for something that happens every five years, which also seems to be quinqennial
@keefeglise I thought the glue was pretty rock solid nowadays… only the temporary crown thingies get warnings about not eating…
@robinhouston this is an absolute joy! What a gift.
@keefeglise don’t worry, they’ve got their lives ahead of them. That’s what I always say when I hoist them out of the drivey seat on the DLR
@jonnelledge.bsky.social can you do Marylebone-Oxford, then bus (sorry) to Didcot, then trains are still running west of Didcot apparently
The only thing I would disagree with here is that the UK is not helpless - it is a choice not to fight back against Musk. It is the wrong choice.
@keefeglise you are quite unique in your “last boost” approach but there is something to it. I too am somewhat amazed at the particular thread/s to which you referred. I think it is mostly follower numbers but if all large accounts wrung their hands in that way then it would be very distracting […]

Now that we have quote posts, it’s possible to reflect on the content of a post without bothering the poster with a reply. I’ve never interacted with this user, but it’s clear she on the whole finds replies tedious unless they […]
@t0nyyates.bsky.social and there is also an element of slot machine… what does it do if I phrase it differently…? Etc. more trying out than testing.
Within a work context, I have observed people noting with surprise that the same prompt often gives different answers. The randomness is central […]
@christianp thanks for sharing that. I find that highly encouraging in case I ever have to experience that procedure. It’s easy otherwise to build up a meta-fear of something being simply too challenging to cope with
@jonnelledge.bsky.social er, you’ve probably explained this before, but why 32 for the US when I bought a UK edition with 31?
BREAKING: Today, Eurail (established 1959) & Interrail (established 1972) merge into a single European railpass range for EVERYONE regardless of nationality or country of residence, called INTERRAIL. Read why I think this is excellent news here: www.seat61.com/news.htm
'What has the BBC ever done for me' campaign I found v irksome. In my case I've had the occasional dose of good drama and sports, and the price I've paid is watching my country misinformed and the BBC assist a racist and fascist movement into the mainstream, one that will eat the BBC if it can.
@t0nyyates.bsky.social I was about to congratulate you on this light satire on Chris Mason’s style… but then I made the mistake of opening the article and seeing it was a quote
