Given there’s a song called ‘Somehow (He Married His Own Henry Moore)’ on my new album, it was a nice surprise to find this programme on #BBC #iPlayer yesterday. No sheep sketches featured, but that’s okay :-) www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

There’s not an Alexander Thomson account on here - though @thisismyglasgow.bsky.social posts very nicely on his buildings quite a bit. @glasgowsubway.bsky.social doesn’t post, sadly. So, let’s stick with the fabulous @moonbuilding.bsky.social view of ‘Walmer Crescent’: “soaring synthpop belter” :-)

It (the pencil museum - I was there last week!) is moving soon … thankfully still in #Keswick.

'Walmer Crescent' is a soaring synthpop belter. Neil Mason, Moonbuilding

A fond memory coming back of getting a train down to Edinburgh, walking to the Playhouse and buying a ticket for Kraftwerk’s ‘91 show. I got to choose my seat; the person in the booth said there may be an intermission (due to no support act…) though there wasn’t.

I can see me giving in and having a go. The Divine Comedy and St Etienne have a high chance of inclusion.

A little “anorak” thought here: whatever is happening is complex. Scotland has a bigger population than Slovenia & N Macedonia combined and a quick (faulty?) online search suggests it has 6 times the number of registered players. Quality varies, of course, but playing as a cohesive team is key.

@voltagepoetry.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 8:49 PM

It would, but I’m going to stick with the “early days of Vrancken” comparison for now. There are some good players (e.g. Bowie, Binks, Welsh & Gilmour all did well in this break IMHO); there’s just not yet the “second nature” fluidity & composure - especially in attack - that familiarity can bring.

I’m not a betting person but, at the moment, wonder about the odds on this: Scotland co-host the Euros, yet fail to qualify / N Ireland denied co-hosting due to lack of appropriate stadium but reach the quarter-finals. Two years away, of course, so much could change…

Like you, I’ve also been intrigued by those #My9Albums posts - but not contributed. I did start considering what my nine might be and that took me into all sorts of memories (tenements, train journeys, even sugared almonds!) It might just be worth writing those up for my own amusement :-)

#SketchesOfSheepLP Track 9: Tidal Islanders Apart. Finishing the album in 5/4 time. I had a couple of the Blackwater islands in mind when writing. The poet #LaviniaGreenlaw has a great poem about that river/estuary, by the way. voltagepoetryproject.bandcamp.com/track/tidal-...

I’m going to add that, in the summer, I watched the “highlights” of Scotland v Iran (yes, ‘78 World Cup) and this match is reminding me of it. Scotland creating better chances here (than then) yet also still not doing so with conviction. 1-1 not out of the question currently…

@voltagepoetry.bsky.socialOct 3, 2026, 7:49 PM

I’d agree with you on this. I think he and Bowie both look physically stronger (since working in Italy) too, but each retains a deft touch and invention in their play also (Ferguson has those skilful qualities as well.)

Enjoyed his goal (and it brought to mind the one he got v Partizan Belgrade, for Hibs.) Hopefully he’ll accumulate a good number in the coming years.

#SketchesOfSheepLP Track 8: Docklander. This, IMHO, may well have indie chart 1981 vibes (see the #Moonbuilding review); it’s about finding happiness in a place one might have disregarded. I got carried away singing it - hence the “la la la” bit! voltagepoetryproject.bandcamp.com/track/dockla...

Thrilled at the review of ‘Sketches of Sheep Show They Aren’t All The Same’ in @moonbuilding.bsky.social weekly 124. Apparently my work is quirkier than #Blancmange and opening track ‘Walmer Crescent’ a “soaring synthpop belter” … wow :-) #synthsky #lofi

#SketchesOfSheepLP Track 7: The Biscay Rains. One of two songs on the album to mention a metro / underground station entrance. The other one is ‘Walmer Crescent.’ voltagepoetryproject.bandcamp.com/track/the-bi...

I’d count @warringtonruncorn.com on Radio 3 as another culturally significant moment for the New Towns Movement in the UK!

IMHO that club has a sufficient fanbase (i.e. sheer scale of folk who invest emotionally / find a communal bond) that if it was relegated to level 11 (Manchester Football League) they’d be okay and support the sides put out over the years as a climb back to the Premier League was attempted.
