Mentorship is about more than career advice. It’s about finding people who understand, building community, and knowing you don’t have to navigate STEM alone.

We can’t wait to welcome our 2027 #DisabledInSTEM mentorship cohort!

Lavender graphic titled “DisabledInSTEM 2027 Mentorship Program: Who Can Apply?” Mentees are members of the disabled community in STEM, including disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent people from all STEM fields and career stages. No medical disclosure is required. Disabled mentors and nondisabled ally mentors are welcome. Mentors can be STEM professionals passionate about supporting others, and prior mentoring experience is not required. Participants do not need to share the same disability, discipline, or career path to build a meaningful connection. DisabledInSTEM logo appears at the top.Lavender graphic titled “DisabledInSTEM 2027 Mentorship Program: What to Expect.” The year-long program is designed to foster meaningful connection and lasting impact. Participants connect with disabled people and allies across fields and around the world, build lasting friendships and support networks beyond their institutions, and grow by sharing resources, opportunities, challenges, and successes. Participants are matched into mentorship pods with multiple mentees and multiple mentors, creating a supportive community space for ongoing support and connection. Fuck the media obsession with finding out who Jane Doe “really” is. What is wrong with us as a society that we think someone’s identity is more important than what happened to them? Jane Doe isn’t a mystery to solve. She’s a human being. We are all Jane Doe.

If you are part of an academic society or a professor of any kind, public statements that you do not condone Drexel cutting off the academy of natural sciences from the public of Philadelphia is very important right now. We need your voices. Urgently.

When mask bans were first being enacted, disabled people warned they marked a return to Ugly Laws. They were a crucial step towards eliminating us from public life. They were designed to make us hide away, unable to safely exist in public. Disabled people are the canaries in the coal mine.

A lot of people are not well right now: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. This is an excellent time to de-escalate conflicts and to lean into patience. This is true in our personal lives and also (maybe especially) online when it's overwhelmingly strangers crashing into each other.

The #SciArtSeptember 🧪prompt is almond-shaped. Did you know that amygdala literally means almond-shaped? I didn’t, but now we both do. I used a (open source) brain MRI to make a cyanotype print and embellished it with metallic gold to show the almond-shaped feature, the paired nuclear complex

As described I used a (open source) brain MRI to make a cyanotype print and embellished it with metallic gold to show the almond-shaped amygdala, the paired nuclear complex present. It’s labelled “Amygdala” in gold and signed Ele Willoughby, 2026.

Covid in 98% of airport air samples. A reminder that you can wear an n95 when you travel, even if you don’t wear one all the time, and why wouldn’t you want to avoid getting sick while you’re on a trip?

VERY important paper! This study detected SARS-CoV-2 in the air of common areas of 4 big US airports. SARS-CoV-2 detected in 98% of samples through the year. Influenza A was found during flu season. That’s why you want to wear an N95 respirator in an airport! And all indoor public spaces all year!
