Prohibition paranormal romance in a monster-filled speakeasy in 1931 Seattle — come for the werewolf jazz tunes and the hapless bisexual bard, stay for the magical liquors and seductive-but-deadly siren journalist!

Also, how did I not know you there? If you come back to YIVO, let me know, and we'll go out for coffee. 🙂

Have you read it yet?

@jennyrae.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 7:16 PM

I need you to do this, Effie! 😊

I would recommend any of these editors and their magazines in a heartbeat. They've all been a pleasure to work with. 🙂

And I can say the same about @scott-h-andrews.bsky.social and @bcsmagazine.bsky.social, which also has a very professional contract.

@johnjosephadams.com and his contracts at @lightspeedmagazine.com have always been well-written and very fair to the author.

My most recent publication with @kaleidotrope.bsky.social had a great contract. Not rights-grabby at all.

There's a lot of talk about publishing contracts lately, but I just wanted to shout out a few markets that have great ones.

It’s written to obfuscate. They’re basically saying we’re angry you yelled at us, so we’re going to do the bare minimum to fix it.

@jennyrae.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 7:34 PM

That’s very cool!!

I somehow missed this when it was posted nine years ago but it’s a gorgeous version of “Hallelujah” in Yiddish. I need you all to watch it. 🙂

The company we use for insect control is trying out a new tech system, and has warned that there may be some kinks. Anyway, their system has just happily told me that they'll be arriving to treat my property at midnight tomorrow. 🙃

Hello, Penn Station.

@jennyrae.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 1:09 PM

Just as a data point, I left my house at 7:10 to go to the train station this morning. How long will the commute be? No one knows. 😅

@jennyrae.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 1:01 PM

And now we've reached yet another station, and are being held in place. The conductor sounds dejected, as he explains there are several trains ahead of us that are also stopped, all due to the broken tunnel. Remember that, all the way at the beginning? They've now entirely closed one track.

@jennyrae.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 12:33 PM

Will any of us get to work on time? This is highly doubtful. 🙃

@jennyrae.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 12:32 PM

We now have a brief scenic interlude as we transit coastal waters. 🙂 (photo taken through a dirty train window, my apologies.)

A very picturesque scene of shining water, the sun trying to peek through, and lots of clouds.
