I've found billboards (and huge campaign banners erected on commercial properties) to be immensely helpful during election season. If the billboard says "vote for a candidate", I probably won't. If the billboard says, "don't vote for", that's somebody I'll look at with interest.
If you haven't noticed, a whole lot of shenanigans are coloring the discourse this election season. Wealthy, conservative interests are opening their wallets and spinning media narratives to slam progressives who challenge the status quo. Katherine Chew Hamilton and I explain: @portlandmercury.com
And, yes, I'm the very first person ever to make that joke.
Lucky me! I got a single seat ticket last minute to see Jeff Goldblum and the Arlene Schnitzer Orchestra perform at the Mildred Snitzer Hall in #Portland.
Ughh ... wait! ..
Here is a in-depth spreadsheet of candidates in the Portland city election.

@psfshr Interesting. I've taken to buying one of every Matter device I've found at Ikea to play with it. (They're pretty cheap, so that was doable.)
I've got the Bilresa dual button and that's been working great, but I never did get the scroll wheel. Maybe a future trip.
I'm enrolled in the local community college. I emailed their "Ask a Librarian" about a technical e-book I wanted to read but they didn't seem to have. The response was basically, "Want us to order it for you?" Libraries are cool. 😎
@chris I ended up moving my stuff from AWS to Vultr some years back. I've been pretty happy, although I'm not using anything there besides VPS instances.
My AWS account has sat fallow for years. Got an alert yesterday about anomalous usage. It may have been one of my old containers launched to run in a lambda. I dunno, it was a couple pennies. No matter, rather than debug the problem, I finally did what I should have done long ago: closed the […]
@hlkfotos.com I'm more of a little in the middle.
I just encountered a new kind of spam. It's LLM generated, responding to a recent blog post relating to home automation. The email is clearly slop, referencing unnecessary details from the post, and asking a question based on a superficial (but not inaccurate) read of the post […]
You know when serious actual investigations of wrongdoing by elected officials are announced? Not October.

@Edent FYI, the stability of my Matter/Thread network improved significantly when I added some smart light bulbs, to extend the mesh. Yeah, different networking, but same idea. Maybe worth a try.
Finally watched this today, and if you haven't, you should. Fascinating and infuriating, especially because as McKenzie points out so clearly, this grift is screwing over the people who can least afford to lose money. (warning about the opening credits: the quick flashes nearly triggered a […]
Hey if you are an unhappy #veterinarian or vet tech and you'd like to live in #Portland, let me know. If my employer, DoveLewis, hires you after my referral I get a big bag of cash, too. :) It is a rather nice place to work in my opinion.
