Yesterday, our @chppc.bsky.social team was busy at the @sasnews.bsky.social Festival of Research, showcasing our map-based project Layers of London (now more than 17,000 user-generated records!) and our new project in progress, PlaceLayers, which scales up to cover all of England, Scotland and Wales

For a history of Ashwell (with drawings!) from 1912, see @bho.bsky.social:

The full text, and the other drawings - ironically, this was a cheap way of illustrating the volumes before the First World War: it would probably be prohibitively expensive today - is available @bho.bsky.social:

That's lovely - in the parish account we published in (mumble, mumble, 1912), there's a handful of nice pen and ink drawings, one of which shows much the same view:

Interesting #LocalHistory resource here - mapping historical data is something we're very interested in (watch this space for more), and this is a great way of visualising defensive monuments and their distribution.

Such a privilege to work with the fantastic researchers involved in these projects. They are full of community spirit & rigorous research, and all demonstrate the value of studying places throughout time, their landscapes & communities. Long live the @vch-home.bsky.social

This is indeed exciting. I remember when I was in grad school and working on an exhibition at the BL, one of the curators introduced me to the shelf of red VCH books, a resource I’d not been introduced to. Was so valuable for my research. And continues to be.
