Bookish architecture This huge monument to Sir Henry (d.1630) & Mary Yelverton is squeezed into the east end of the north aisle of Easton Maudit church (Northants). It features a superstructure made from piles of books. Two bedesmen with cushioned heads support the canopy.

This rather plain-looking slate for Charles Haskell, a Black Revolutionary War veteran, takes on new dimensions when you get verrrry close.

clearly, I have a theory. I think the 'great ancestor' is Art Moyle Mac Mahon who died in 1560, (AFM 1560.2). I think I can make the case, but the paper keeps expanding and expanding!

Is there a coat of arms more suited to the Halloween season than this one?! This image comes from a German manuscript made up of a collection of coats of arms which relate mainly to the Holy Roman Empire. It was probably written in southwest Germany or Switzerland, around the early 16th century.
