You mean ... men are scared of smart women? Could that really be true?

I had a great time visiting @utdallas.bsky.social to share work from our teams and visit with folks here - so much fun! And thanks especially to @pujaparekh.bsky.social @tedpricethepainguy.bsky.social and @madrelabutd.bsky.social for the warmest of welcomes!!

Maybe it won't, and as humans we intuitively feel drawn to or see the beauty in the realness of the biological systems? But, as someone who loves imaging and microscopy, its certainly a lot to ponder and some sadness in it.

@martinowk.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 3:14 PM

Followed by the thought that yes, biological systems are truly astounding - all on their own, without enhancement or science fiction. I feel saddened to ponder if that wonder at the truly nature becomes obsolete with some race or reach to better than real.

@martinowk.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 3:14 PM

More than anything about the whole imaging prize AI debacle, I feel - saddened? For me, and I know for other imaging enthusiasts, you had (hopefully still have) these moments of wonder where its like, how can this even be real, its so beautiful?

Greetings from the "Alzheimer room" at the LMU Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in München This is the very room where Dr. Alois Alzheimer had his microscopy and brain anatomy laboratory setup and, one can argue, where a biological foundation for a brain disorder was first discovered

Also, 100% guaranteed that if you see me posting microscopy pictures, it's because I am knee-deep in data analysis #FluorescenceFriday

Happy #FluorescenceFriday. This video shows a group of neural crest cells (🟣) remodelling a mesh of fibronectin matrix (🔵). This is part of a biorxiv paper showing the reciprocal relationship between NC and neural tube morphogenesis.

I like to collect curious microscopy moments so I caught this cell-cell fusion event of ectodermal cells in a 🐸 embryo in vivo. The nucleus split and cytokinesis finished. But then a moment later, the 2 cells fuse back together to form 1 bigger cell with 2 nuclei! How cool? #FluorescenceFriday

Scientists have sequenced the genome & methylome of Jonathan, a 194-yr-old giant tortoise who may be the oldest living terrestrial individual on the planet. Due to health concerns & his iconic status on St. Helena, blood draw wasn’t possible, so they made do with buccal scrapes & saliva samples.🐢🧬🤩🧪

The 2026-2027🧠 lab team! I’m so honored to work with this creative, hardworking, funny, & kind people 🙏 And I’m SO excited about the our studies investigating how stress during times of brain plasticity (early development, postpartum) increases risk for psychiatric & neurodegenerative disorders.
