Please enjoy this new offering from the lab: we discover that #excavates - ancient flagellate lineages with a voracious appetite for bacteria - change their behaviour depending on the availability of said prey!

Really happy to be here at Bigelow Labs with John Burns and a bunch of my other favorite scientists 😊😊😊 we're hunting for John's pet radiolarian, called Plagiacantha πŸ’• @burnsajohn.bsky.social @bigelowlab.bsky.social

They really are, and they were absent a week ago, and last week there were lots of radiolarians at the same spot, but this week I cant find many. Durned diatoms.

True story! I was just happy to have colors, selecting pencils at random. Then Andrew encouraged me to be purposeful in my color choices, which is even more fun!

Thanks Maggi! I know I'm already mentioned... but my other favorite nontraditional lab space was a rented RV that we used to road trip the west coast collecting salamander eggs to inspect embryos for signs of endosymbiosis. I set up a fluorescence microscope on the little table in the RV.
