Hi all! I’m very late going through #DVPit pitches, but I will be perusing today! If I 💗 your pitch and you feel we could be a match, please send your query and first 25 pages to me at alevick(@)writershouse(.)com.

Hi #KidLitArtPostcard! I'm Steph, and I like stories full of misfits and mischief. My 2nd picture book, Medusa's Pet Rock, just came out last week.

A sad young Medusa holds a petrified hamster in a cage. Behind her, her shadow has turned all evil looking, and the word MONSTROUS is rendered in angry red granite looking texture

As early as they’ll allow me into the process, often I can tell them if I think one idea is more viable than another or if they have a major editorial problem and save them time/energy.

It’s a consideration, but not the only consideration!

I would suggest pitching this as an early reader or chapter book as you have here! And go to agents who are either calling out that they are looking for such projects or those who rep MG and PB!

Depends on how you left things with the R&R agent. Some request an exclusive R&R so while you may be able to keep the existing mss out with agents, you wouldn’t be able to share the new material under that agent passed. Each situation is a little different though so this very much depends. #AskDV

Yes there’s a great amount of info online about query letters! I personally feel the format is helpful to get the information I need to set my expectations for reading the pages.
Sometimes people want to get jazzy with it and write form the characters POV but that is just confusing to me!

I think you’ll find the most folks in the tried and true locations. I personally don’t intend to get a litconnect account because that becomes yet another thing I need to remember to manage.

Email queries still work amazingly well! Query manager is great too! Pitch events like this are fab!

Oh I love this.

Popular with readers! It feels hard to sell to publishers.

I love when folks hone in on some common themes between seemingly
disparate works!

I think it’s much less contested now than it was a few years ago. My gut would still be pitch as adult with crossover appeal (but obviously that is project dependent!).

I ask myself and my clients whether each scene is serving multiple functions in the story and if not whether we could combine some moments and make them pull double duty! #AskDV

@allielevick.bsky.socialSep 17, 2026, 8:16 PM

I don’t think so! #AskDV

A tight word count can be great these days!

@allielevick.bsky.socialSep 17, 2026, 8:13 PM

I’m going to give a major caveat that ALL of my answers on #AskDV are just my opinion! They are most certainly *not* publishing law 😂

Can’t wait to see those questions!
